One Of America's Favorite Restaurant Chains Just Trashed Our Military Vets – Boycott

Them Now!

Of all the asinine policies, Dave and Buster's arcade and restaurant in Kentwood, Michigan

demanded veterans, Victor Murdock and Adrienne Brown of the American Legion Riders Post 179

of Grandville, MI, remove their vests or vacate the restaurant.

The patches on their vests depicted the American Flag, a bald eagle and the Prisoner of War

Flag.

The restaurant's management claimed the patches on their vests promoted gang-related

symbols.

This is political correctness run amok.

According to Military.com, Texas-based Dave and Buster's headquarters issued a statement

explaining:

"The group was asked to remove the jackets or turn them inside out because the business'

dress code prohibits evidence of gang affiliation.

Spokeswoman April Spearman said the policy was in place 'to ensure that everyone is

able to enjoy themselves in a fun and safe environment.'"

The American Legion is one of the oldest, most respected veterans' organizations in

the country.

Since its charter and incorporation by Congress in 1919 following World War I, the American

Legion has served as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness.

The American Legion is most assuredly not a gang.

The American Flag, the bald eagle and the Prisoner of War Flag are not gang symbols.

Dave and Buster's needs to reap what they have sown.

The internet is full of forums and discussion groups planning to boycott Dave and Buster's

for their utter contempt and disrespect of American veterans.

Dave and Buster's is not only disrespecting veterans who have served our country, they

are denying them their First Amendment right to freely express themselves.

What does this say about America when our veterans cannot display the very flag they

fought and died for?

Not sure how to pronounce it but

the word

is BOYCOTT.

Houston restaurant community cooks up support for shelters and first responders - Duration: 3:53.

MILES O'BRIEN: The outpouring of people helping those in need has been enormous in Houston

over the past few days.

One example is a group of restauranteurs and chefs who got together to supply food to both

victims and first-responders.

Houston Public Media's Tomeka Weatherspoon paid a visit.

She joins me now from the Convention Center.

Tomeka, what are the restaurants doing?

TOMEKA WEATHERSPOON, Houston Public Media: They're gathering together to help each other

and to help the community.

So, we visited Reef Restaurants today, and they're making so much food.

Yesterday, they told me they made 10,000 meals to give away to hospitals, evacuees, and first-responders.

I talked with co-owner of the restaurant Jennifer Caswell.

And she said the restaurant community is just really tight-knit and they just wanted to

do something to help.

JENNIFER CASWELL, Co-Owner, Reef Restaurant: As we sat there and watched what was going

on and we knew that we wouldn't be able to come back in here and serve our customers,

we knew that we had product that had to be gone through.

we also knew that we had customers and vendors that wanted to help.

And we wanted to turn the kitchen into a hub to be able to do that.

And we know that our chef community and our restaurant community is such a strong and

well-knit community that we could get everybody on the same page and working together towards

that goal.

MILES O'BRIEN: So, Tomeka, how do the restaurants figure out how and where to send the food?

TOMEKA WEATHERSPOON: Well, initially, it seemed like they just put the word out that they

were available to help in any way that anyone needed.

And, you know, I was talking to some chef this morning, and they were saying now they're

just getting requests.

They're getting text messages.

Can you please help us with this?

And they are more than happy to help.

And they're getting a lot of volunteers too.

So, I talked with a volunteer who is helping in another way.

His name was Gavin Torabi.

And he was going around to precincts, and he went to a station in Southwest Houston

to see what they needed.

GAVIN TORABI, Volunteer: They were down to basically tortilla chips and water.

And I said, instead of helping aimlessly wander, let's direct our focus.

And it started out.

We asked, how many mouths do they have?

They said, we can't tell you.

So, we guesstimated, bought 50.

And 50 turned into 100, and 100 turned into 200.

And, like I said, we're up into the 2,000s now.

TOMEKA WEATHERSPOON: And, Miles, like I said, people are volunteering in a lot of different

ways.

One really crucial way is physically driving the food to these locations, to these hospitals,

to these shelters.

I talked with and rode with a volunteer driver.

His name was Mark Austin.

And he pointed out he is delivering food from some of the best places to eat in Houston.

MARK AUSTIN, Volunteer: In the last 24 hours, I have delivered food from Reef, Riel Restaurant,

Hugo's, Brennan's.

So it's not -- we're not just delivering ham sandwiches to people.

We're delivering hot, fresh, best product food, you know, from James Beard Award-winning

chefs.

MILES O'BRIEN: Tomeka, I imagine there are a lot of other people and a lot of other places

that could use this kind of service.

I think of assisted-living facilities, even private homes.

Are there plans to expand?

TOMEKA WEATHERSPOON: Well, right now, they're really trying to get organized, because demand

is so high.

And they're really just getting off the ground.

So many restaurants had flooding issues and travel issues.

And they have just so many demands they need to meet.

I was talking to one chef, and he was saying you know, they ran out of protein really quickly.

But because of all the volunteers, they were able to get it within the hour.

Another restaurant owner said you know, what we really need is refrigerated trucks.

But the need changes minute by minute as the situation here keeps changing.

MILES O'BRIEN: It's great to see that kind of response.

Derren Tippets: When someone comes in for a conscious sedation visit ... very, very

important.

No food, no water for eight hours before.

That's very, very important.

Once they get in here, then we'll go ahead and do a pre-exam.

We'll just make sure that they're good to go for a conscious sedation.

No heath history changes, no problems, or anything like that.

But once we've deemed that they are appropriate to go ahead and sedate, we'll give them some

juice with some medicine in it.

They'll hang out with Mom or Dad or who's ever here with them for the next, at least,

30 minutes.

It may even take longer, as well.

Then we go ahead and take child back.

We'll let him and go ahead and watch some TV.

We'll use some nitrous oxide, as well, at that time.

And then after a little bit, usually that kid goes ahead and takes a nap.

Then we can go ahead and inject local anesthetic, and we're able to prepare all the teeth for

the cavities that need to be done.

We're able to do all those things while they're asleep.

As it comes to the general anesthesia visits ... Number one.

No food, no water for eight hours before.

When they're here, the anesthesiologist will take at a look at them and make sure that

everything is good to go.

We will also take a look at them, as well.

We'll review the treatment plan with parents.

And then, once we're all good to go, we'll help them fall asleep.

Once he's asleep, we can take care of all that not-so-fun dentistry stuff, and they

don't even know that it happened.

Really a great option for a lot of those kids.

You know, it's a question that I get a lot of the time

when people have an awesome success on a product delivery.

They always wonder what does the client want next?

Now, as you know through life,

it's a natural progression.

We start off as kids, we go to school, we progress to

you know, primary school then high school,

then on to college and university.

This is the progression that you need

to take your clients through in your product range.

Products should

deliver their initial results.

Solve an initial problem that they have.

You know, provide that solution,

then it should open up an opportunity

for them to grow further, and then your next product

should deliver that promise.

You know, deliver that solution for them.

And it's a natural progression,

just the same way as we move through schools,

and primary, through to secondary,

and on to college and university,

your products need to be able to do that same thing.

Well, I'm standing outside a donut shop near my house.

Look at the size of this.

Isn't that huge?

We got a question about donuts this week

from someone named Connell.

So let's give him a call now.

Hi, Doug.

Hi, Connell.

I have a question for you.

How did donuts get their name?

That's a great question.

Why do we call donuts donuts?

To be honest, we could have called them anything.

We could have called them schmoop la doops.

Or we could have called them sassenfringles.

But no, we call them donuts.

Why?

Why donut?

What's so interesting about questions

like this is how do you figure out how anything came

to be called what it's called?

To solve this kind of mystery, there's a secret tool--

this thing.

It's awesome.

It's a special kind of book.

It's a kind of dictionary.

Now you might know that a dictionary is a book that

has every word in our language.

And you can look up any word.

And it tells you how to spell it and what that word means.

This thing is a special kind of dictionary.

It's called an etymology dictionary.

Now let me tell you what that means.

I wish it had a better name.

Etymology means the story of a word.

So this doesn't tell you what a word means.

Instead if you look up a word in this book,

it tells you the story of the word.

It tells you why we chose to call the word that word.

So what I can do is I can look up donut

in the etymology dictionary.

And here we get our first clue.

Now you might have seen donut spelled like this--

D-O-N-U-T, right?

That's how a lot of people spell it today.

But donut is sometimes spelled like this,

and this is how it used to be spelled.

Does that give you any clues?

Just by looking at the word, can you

tell where at least part of the word donut comes from?

Now would be a good time to pause

the video if you want to take a guess.

You ready?

Look at the first part of that word, the dough part

of the word doughnut.

You might have heard of dough before.

Donuts are made of dough.

It's the same stuff we use to make bread.

So that's the dough part.

But now what about the second part of that word, nut?

A donut doesn't look like a nut.

What's it got to do with a nut?

It seems like nothing.

But if you look in the etymology dictionary, it tells us.

Donuts weren't always a thing.

They were introduced from the Dutch,

a people who live in Europe, who called them olykoeks.

Now that's Dutch for oil cake.

It's dough that you fry in oil, which makes it become cake.

So you got oil cake.

Now that name didn't catch on for them.

So why would we start calling them donuts?

Well, notice what those original Dutch donuts looked like.

Do you notice how they don't have a hole in them, do they?

There's no hole.

We think of donuts as round with a hole in it.

I mean if it doesn't have that, it's not a donut, right?

But it turns out the hole came later.

You see, instead, donuts used to look like this,

a round glob of dough.

A lot of people thought that the shape of this

looked like a nut, almost like an almond.

So the name became donut because it's

a fried ball of dough that seemed

to be in the shape of a nut.

There you have it, all of this thanks to the special tool,

the etymology dictionary, a book that

tells you the story of a word.

Why Do India And China Have So Many People? - Duration: 2:59.

India and China, together, are home to over 2.7 billion people.

That's as many humans as in the next 20 most populous countries combined, or in the whole

other 170 countries in the world.

Over the last 300 years, India and China each added more than a billion people to their

populations, way more than any other country, but they have actually been growing at about

the same rate as the rest of the world.

They have a lot more people today because they had a lot more people a few hundred years

ago, when the world began its period of modern, and rapid, population growth.

It's like comparing a big bank account and a small one.

If they both grow at about the same rate over many years, the big one gains a lot more money,

simply because it started with more.

So the billion-dollar, er, billion-person question, is why did India and China have

so many people when they started their rapid growth?

We can't know for sure, since so many variables factor into long-term population dynamics,

but the two most plausible explanations are food and area.

Having lots of fertile land and good access to fresh water makes it possible to grow lots

of food, which in turn makes it possible to nourish a lot of people.

Even today, the 10 most populated countries in the world all have a relatively large amount

of farmland.

And Asia - and in particular south and east Asia - has tons of farmland, lots of river

valleys, and the ability to grow food year-round.

Plus, domestication of plants and animals essentially started in Asia, giving populations

an early leg - or wing - up.

As such, Asia's been the most densely populated region of the world for a really long time.

Area matters too; countries like Pakistan and Bangladesh may be filled with farms and

densely-populated, but because they're smaller in area than India and China, they simply

cannot contain as many people.

Of course, a few other things happened in India and China in the last few thousand years,

and some of them helped the populations grow, and some of them shrank the populations, but

through it all, the large and fertile lands of India and China were able to sustain lots

of people, such that when the era of modern population growth came around, they had a

head start.

Or rather, a hundred-million-head start.

It's true, people tend to choose a partner quite early and settle down.

they always say, "I want a homely wife".

What is a good wife?

A good wife can make pita.

It's important that the wife looks after the children.

I am not opposed to the traditional family model.

I wouldn't mind not having to work anymore.

Girls! Living with your in-laws, yes or no?

There are lots of funny answers, such as:

Your mother raised you, and you leave her for a person you just met.

You are not a man.

And there's something even worse written here.

It wouldn't be decent to translate it.

This is also a topic of discussion among Tamils.

For us, it's normal for the wife to move in with the husband

and live with his family.

I would live with my in-laws.

You would totally do that?

Of course.

Then they could look after the children.

The two of us come across as so modern…

No really! I know of many cases where it's not an issue at all.

On the contrary, the women are happy about being able to work.

Would you do that: live with your in-laws, yes or no?

It seems to me that Albanians

are even more proud of their heritage than other foreigners.

This is how I understand it:

We all had to leave our homeland,

some for economic reasons, others as refugees.

There is such a connection with the place where you are from

where you have lived for generations.

That's exactly what I mean. All Albanians do that:

We are extremely proud of people who are pursuing international careers.

Why am I wearing such different make-up?

There are negative associations

when Tamils talk about dark skin.

That's right.

In our culture, dark skin is not considered beautiful.

And that's not just the case among Tamils.

I have friends from the Philippines who also avoid the sun.

The Chinese and Japanese do likewise.

What I find really weird are the tricks people use to lighten their skin tone.

You always have an umbrella with you.

You're always in the shade.

Sometimes I cross the street to be on the shady side.

It's really embarrassing,

but people always talking about skin colour had an effect on me.

"Light is good and dark is bad."

White peopletry to become darker, especially in summer.

They sunbathe for hours.

I went on a beach holiday once and only once.

I got a sun allergy.

They risk getting skin cancer just to have darker skin.

nd we're just as stupid at the other end of the scale.

We smear bleaching shizzle on our faces in order to have lighter skin

although it's carcinogenic.

These are various bleaching creams,

to make your skin a bit lighter.

Can I take a look?

This is Fruit Fair.

It sounds quite natural at first.

But then I can't see a single fruit.

Glycerine, sterates, sodium acid phosphate.

You're putting acid on your face.

Along with a bit of colour and perfume.

Girls, are you nuts?

I just want to say, you apply it once or twice a year.

Not once a month.

That's not good at all.

We Tamils don't spend a lot of time in the sun.

So we have less vitamin D.

But the melanine that makes our skin dark

protects us from the sun.

Then we're like vampires.

Ideally, we should return to our huts.

Of course we have a vitamin D deficiency.

Men usually prefer light-skinned women.

They think that light skin is beautiful.

Take a look at the actresses.

Aishwarya Rai.

Trisha.

Sneha.

They all have really light skin.

But now even they are not light enough.

So they bring in Amy Jackson.

A white woman to play a Tamil.

How stupid is that?

Are we still influenced by the Colonial period

and the era of slavery?

Back in the day when the whites held the power.

Our people who worked in the fields

were of course darker.

So people think about social class,

and maybe that still influences us.

it's beautiful, then I can do that. So I do it for flexibility.

You never know where it's going to take you.

Sometimes I've meet people at a hostel

and ended up just dropping all my plans and

going traveling with them

it opens up a lot of opportunities

especially if you're a solo traveler.

Share with the other guests, and talk,

and

not feeling alone.

Nice vibe,

clean and tidy,

and just

the people I think make it

a better place, a better hostel.

It inspires you. You see so many places,

see some new people you're like, "Oh wow!

I definitely want to know this thing." I want to

kind of learn.

You understand the gap between what you have and what you could have in

your life as a person or as a citizen.

Meeting some lifelong friends or,

you know,

seeing some stuff that you otherwise wouldn't

have seen.

It's all about experience, I guess.

They are the lifeblood of services for people with disabilities.

We celebrate Direct Support Professional Recognition Week, September 10th through the 16th, with

MOHR's Direct Support Professionals of the Year and Tip of the Spear Award winner.

People with disabilities will need support throughout their lives.

It's just that rewarding.

It's definitely my clients, and helping them be integrated in the community, and helping

them to be the best person that they can be, and to help them reach their goals and what

they want to achieve in their lives.

I go because I like what I do.

I like helping people with disabilities.

It's just- that's my way of life.

It's really rewarding.

I've almost been doing this job seven years and there's somebody, my very first placement

I ever had, at Walmart, he's still there.

And these are generally wonderful people who come in.

All my friends, they maybe are blessed enough to like what they do, but I don't think anybody

is truly, truly loving coming to work like me and my coworkers are.

And the staff are just so important.

Who could replace me?

I've been doing this for 25 years for her.

But, you know, I found out that other people can do this and do it well.

They're always in my heart, and I think about them constantly.

Haru is growing more beautiful. Remember when everyone thought that he is a boy and Tablo said in one interview that people keep saying that he has a beautiful son and he just casually said that Haru is a girl.
