In Mid 18th century the life expectancy at birth was 32 years for women and 30 years for men
Presently it is 82 and 78 years in favour of females
In both the cases women live about four to six percent longer than their partners
this lifespan difference has remained stable throughout the centuries
From 1800s to this 21st century
Present-day age difference for different countries is something like this
The country with highest age difference is Russia
and currently there are about 11 million more women than men in Russia
men in Russia is likely to die 11 to 13 years earlier than women and
25% of Russian men died before 55 mostly because they smoke and drink more heavily than rest of the world

Average life expectancy from birth for Russian man is only 65 years
which is 15 years less than the average life of Japanese man
Now, let's say if you are a Russian man and marries a woman five years younger than yourself
That means when you turn 60 you have on average four to five years left to live
while your female partners still have on average
20 to 21 years
So there is huge gap of 15 years between both of you
which can affect your life significantly during the later part of your life
Keeping Russia aside, women also lives about four to five years longer in almost every other country
So why is that difference?

Actually, there are three factors which contribute to this age difference

Woman's have two x-chromosomes while men has one X and one Y
Since women's have two x-chromosomes
They genetically possess double copy of every gene they have which means even if one is faulty
They have backup while men do not have this luxury and as we age
More and more cells may begin to malfunction with time putting men at greater risk of various diseases like arthritis diabetes
cancer and cardiovascular diseases as they do not have backup as women do
Adding to that during menstrual cycle women heart rate increases providing the same benefit as moderate exercise
Which will be helpful in long-run minimizing the risk of developing serious illness

difference in sex hormone
Estrogen Which is a female sex hormone works as an antioxidant
as it removes poisonous chemicals that cause cell stress, delaying the aging process Significantly
it also raises good cholesterol and lowers bad cholesterol level
which helps in reducing stroke and heart diseases
on the other hand Testosterone which is a male sex hormone works oppositely
raising bad cholesterol and reducing good cholesterol
Which may leads to heart disease as a younger age than women, as it blocks the arteries and blood flow to heart
That's why heart diseases starts eight years earlier in men than women

Lifestyle difference
men are more likely to use any type of illicit drugs than women and on average
they smoke more cigarettes and drink more alcohol
Recent study shows that in america 13% of the men use some kind of illicit drugs
Compared to 7% women's which contribute to their health decline
Also men's are exposed to more hazardous environment during a job
like working in mining, chemical factories and power line worker
among driving men broke more rules than women's and more prone to accidents
mainly due to driving under influence of alcohol and other drugs
These excessive risks taking nature may leads to increased
cardiovascular diseases like CARDIAC ARREST, HEART FAILURE and STROKE
and further after retiring men tends to adopt unhealthy lifestyle like smoking, sitting around
Laziness, eating too much with no exercise and also mentally they get bored and unhealthy
While on the other hand, life for women goes as usual as they continue to be involved with cooking, cleaning house
washing dishes and shopping
They remain more active which helped them stay fit and healthy consequently increasing their life span
so these are three major factors which makes the age difference, there is not much a man can do to decrease this difference or make
Lifespan longer probably only thing we can do is that we can improve our lifestyle
