Yes, you can make more money on social media by selling less, and I'm going to tell you

why right now.

Thank you for watching Five Minute Social Media, where I teach you how to do the best

social media, in the least amount of time possible.

Almost every small business that I've consulted asks, almost right away, "Why isn't anyone

clicking on my posts?"

And my answer?

Because they don't like your posts.

I had one client that was a medspa, where they do Botox injections and things like that,

and they couldn't believe that nobody was liking and commenting and calling about their

posts about "20% off Botox, today only!"

These were great deals so why wouldn't they comment and like these?

Well 1) Botox has a little bit of a stigma.

"Hillary Smith" isn't going to be like, "Oh, yeah, I love Botox, I'm getting that," because,

you know, they keep that to themselves.

But, more importantly, all you were doing was selling to them.

You were not giving them any content that they actually want.

When we hear sales pitches as consumers, we tend to run.

It's the old car salesman thing, you walk into the car salesman lot and somebody comes

up right away and they're like, "Hey, let me get you in a car!

What's it going to take to get you into a new car today!?!"

And you just want to run, like, "Why did we come here?

I hate this."

Now if you've been to a car lot recently, you know that they'll kind of let you walk

around a little bit, and then they'll just kind of say, "Hey (casually), you guys go

ahead and browse around.

If you need anything, I'll be right over here."

They've changed it, because we don't like being sold to aggressively.

You probably don't own a used car lot so let me give you a smaller example.

Maybe you have a friend that sells a health product on Facebook, or some club that they're

in, or clothing out of their garage, whatever it might be, that's all they ever post about.

Have you ever unfollowed that person?

I have.

Even though I want to see the once-a-month post about their family, I just can't sit

through all the sales pitches because I hate it.

Maybe you have a friend that you've unfollowed, because all they do is post about politics.

And you don't agree with them.

You know what that is?

They're trying to "sell you" their politics and you don't want to see it anymore.

It's the same thing, selling, all the time.

So what's the balance between how much you should sell, and not sell?

I like to tell my clients to follow the 80/20 rule.

Eighty percent of the time you should be posting things that your customers or clients like

with out selling to them, at all!

Then the other 20% of the time you can do what you need to do to actually get them to

take action.

That tends to be a pretty good ratio.

Now, if until now you have been posting all sales content, changing 80% of it may sound

a little daunting.

Like, how do you come up with, what do they want to see?

Think about things that benefit them, more than they benefit you or your business.

By the way, offering 10% off does not benefit them more than it benefits your business,

don't be fooled into that.

If we go back to our Botox example earlier, it could be an article, about how Botox is

save, and how Botox has been approved these different things.

Give them value.

Or it could just be a general skin care article, cause these are people that want to take care

of their skin.

It could come from somebody else, or it could come from your blog (if you have time to blog).

In conclusion, start posting content your customers or clients want to see without selling

to them most of the time, and people will start clicking on your posts.

At least they should.

My Blogging Story (& How I Make Money Blogging While Working Full time) - Duration: 11:25.

hello welcome back to my youtube channel I hope you're having a fantastic day I

am so excited you're here today because today I am going to be sharing with you

my entire blogging journey and how I've come from knowing nothing about blogging

to making money blogging and helping pay off my student loans from my blog income

okay so it all started in 2011 when I graduated law school with two hundred

and six thousand dollars in student loan debt take that in for a minute that is

an insane amount of debt and I had no idea at the time that I had that much

debt you know for a number of reasons I went to undergrad then I

went to law school figured I would be fine paying off my debt if I was an

attorney that was wrong I ended up taking a job as an attorney and you know

paying my student loans back but feeling like every single paycheck was just

going straight to my loans and I just had no idea how I had made it to that

point knowing absolutely literally nothing about personal finance I had never

taken a class about it never really talked about it in my home life nothing

like I knew nothing so being the type a person that I am I decided to start

learning about personal finance I started reading books I started

listening to podcasts and I soon found out that I was even more ignorant than I

had ever even imagined so knowing absolutely nothing about blogging I

decided that I would start a blog and you know take it from there my thinking

was that if I knew nothing about money I could share my experiences with my debt

and whatever else I learned about money and help other people do this obviously

there were other blogs already doing this but I was clueless I just thought

well I'm gonna start along so I did it wasn't long

after I started my blog that I realized there's this entire online world out

there where people are friends with each other they go to conferences together

they make money online like it was so crazy to learn all this stuff because I

was clueless before this and then I started realizing how much I really

loved personal finance and I loved learning about it and at the same time

in my law career I was like hating it like I was just hating law firm life it

was really really stressful the hours were nuts like sunup to

sundown all seven days of the week like I just and I didn't see that ending even

as I progressed in my career so I decided to pursue a career as a

financial planner I had already had my blog up and running

so I decided to apply for jobs as a financial planner and pursue a career in

that field I ended up getting a job as a financial planner and sitting and

eventually passing the certified financial planner examination however

during that time I continued to blog and I continue to make money blogging so the

first year I blogged I was a lawyer the second year I blogged I was a financial

planner and then this year the third year I was also a financial planner so

all of my success with making money blogging and blogging in general has

been done while I work full time this is like very different than a lot of other

bloggers out there who end up quitting their jobs and are just blogging

full-time or they have a full-time job but their blog is just sort of a hobby

that they're not interested in monetizing so I've found a way that

works for me to work full time and make money blogging the first year that I

blogged I made a total of five thousand dollars from my blog this included money

from advertisements affiliate marketing and maybe like one or two sponsored

posts but mostly freelance writing as well now with freelance writing I wasn't

actually making money from my blog but I was writing for other blogs and getting

paid for it this is like one of the best ways to make money blogging at first

because when I say blogging in quotes because it's not really from my blog but

it is an online form of making money the reason that I love this is because it

gives you an income stream that you can use to put towards blog expenses because

what a lot of people don't realize is that if you really want to turn your

blog into like a successful business it costs money and you will have to pay for

things and you sort of get back what you put in and if you're not willing to do

that it's gonna be really really hard to monetize and then scale your blog up

fast forward to my second year blogging and I made just shy of a thirty thousand

dollars blogging and this was while I was working full time and studying to

sit for the certified financial planner examination so it was a lot I had a ton

of stuff going on but I still did it I was able to do it and the way that I did

it was just having a very structured schedule you know putting in time slots

in my calendar when I was going to be studying versus when I was gonna be

blogging around my work schedule and it really paid off and part way through

that second year I stopped freelance writing and shifted my focus to just on

affiliate marketing and ads now I forgot to mention that I also did sell digital

products for a little bit in the very beginning but that was before I knew

anything about the online world and I I definitely did it way too soon I plan to

do this again in the future I just took six-figure blogger which is

a course that shows you actually how to monetize with digital products but when

I did it I knew nothing about marketing nothing about sales and like I was just

not ready at all for it so that and it wasn't a significant

amount of my income at all so second year blogging mostly ads and affiliate

marketing my third year blogging is this year and I'm so excited

right now it's August I don't know how much money

make this year but I can tell already that it will be more than $30,000 and

that is while I'm working full-time again it's from display advertising of

an affiliate marketing only and I'm hoping that next year I will

incorporate digital products and then I'll make even more money but this year

I just spent really focused on fine-tuning my blog how it looks the

design of it and then my strategy for monetization and most of that is what I

learned from the six-figure blogger course and from making sense of

affiliate marketing so with those two courses again I had to pay for them and

that you know that's money that some people hesitate to spend but it's like

that's how I learned how to make more money on my blog and I use this money

for my student loan payments when I shifted from being a corporate attorney

to being a financial planner I took a 50% pay cut which was really

hard on the budget because of my student loans the biggest expense in my budget

for sure is my student loans so I had to find a way to continue to pay those off

as quick as possible while working in my dream career which is with personal

finance and helping people with their money so the way that I do this is with

my blog and if I if I did not have my blog 100% I would not be able to stay on

a standard repayment plan and pay more on my loans instead I would probably

have to go on an income driven plan and because my debt is so high I would

unlikely even be able to pay for the interest every month so my blog is truly

a life saver I pay a minimum of fifteen hundred dollars a month onto my student

loans and sometimes more like last month I paid $2,700 but that was a little

unusual although I hope it continues to grow and I hope that I

can continue to pay that much on my debt I still have just over $100,000 in

student loans to repay my goal is to repay that in the next two years but

that only works if I can exponentially increase my blog income and so far I've

been able to do that I went you know from 5k my first year to 30k my second

year and you know verdicts still out on my third year but it will be more than

30k so if I can just keep this up and repay my debt in the next two years life

will be good so that's my blogging story so far a lot of people ask me how do I

do it how do I get so much done and a lot of it has to do with how much I plan

so at night I plan for the following day and I make sure I have in my gcalendar

and my productivity planner what I'm going to do the next day so I'm so good

at time management because I use these tools that I actually increase my

productivity significantly and it sort of takes away the idea that I can choose

when to do things because I've thought about it ahead of time I won't just act

on how I feel that day I'll actually follow my plan I highly recommend this

if you're trying to blog and work full-time or balance all of that and for

me what works is to often blog in the morning before work like you know I I'd

get up at 4:30 a lot of times if not 5:00 and then I blog before work and

sometimes I blog after work or on the weekends but I'll look at my week ahead

of time and make sure that I've allotted enough time for me to do it and all of

this is to say obviously I love blogging like if I didn't this would be way too

much time spent on it so if you're thinking about starting a blog only do

it if you really love it yes you can make money blogging and I'll link to

some resources for you in the notes below but really only do it if you think

you can really find a passion that I think you have to put in too much

time if it's not something you're gonna fall in love with so that's all I wanted

to share with you today it's my personal story of blogging if you guys have any

Have you ever felt a bit skeptical about the talking on diversity in the workplace?

Have you ever scrolled past an article on diversity and thought: "Here we

have it, the same boring diversity mantra again". If yes, this video is for you

I am Federica Viero, a cultural diversity investigator and founder of

The Intercultural Lab. This video is about why many business leaders think

diversity is a no-go in their workplaces and what could possibly make them change

their mind. Because there's a lot of talking about workplace diversity

nowadays. It's been a very popular global topic in research and in the

media for decades now. Still, it's adoption by the corporate world has been

way less popular. Entire industries, boards, even teams are divided. There's

the diversity advocates on one side, thought leaders, inspiring CEOs, and they say: "Hey

do you realize how important diversity is for your business?" and on the other

side all those corporate decision makers, maybe you're one of them, who respond

"Uh-huh. Sure. Can I please get back to work now?

Got real challenges waiting for me out there. This divide is not only huge it's

also one of the least discussed. Because the talking of diversity itself is going

crescendo, but the story of what must have gone wrong with these stubborn

diversity opponents is not as appealing as some highly visible success stories

or some juicy Silicon Valley stories. You probably read about this recent

Google-related gender diversity affair, that's an example. Still I think it will

be worth putting more efforts towards understanding the gaps in this divided

community of corporate business leaders because a lot of them work in the

trenches of the corporate arena and haven't welcomed the diversity trend and

I don't believe that just because they have grown skeptical about diversity

they are all terrible, dull, insensitive micromanagers. So why this

skepticism? I think we have a bit of a tendency to preaching to the converted

to speaking to the ones who already bought our message. It feels more natural

somehow, while those who are not "converted" usually don't speak at all in

this debate, I mean why should they? It's not their conversation. The outcome

however it's a huge missed opportunity. Because here's the thing: if you do

believe that diversity is crucial to your success you have welcomed the idea

you are not the one who would need to hear about diversity the most. However we

often end up speaking to you first, for example we use a kind of "inspirational

quote" communication style which only can resonate with you if you are convinced

or we tell diversity success stories and say: "Other leaders should get inspired

from here and drive change". True, but how exactly are they supposed to go about it?

I think there is a need for clarifying and getting deeper into the business

fundamentals of diversity because they're not a given. We all love and I

love talking passion and why diversity so beneficial but the risk is to

disregard the how. We don't really focus on how real dimensions of diversity can

help address specific business concerns. Now, I would never dare saying that the

why is not important and that we should not start with it, still we can't assume

that everyone in the corporate world is prompted to instantly see the connection

between diversity and their very specific business success and simply own it.

We need to make this link ready to implement for the real employee, manager

or business leader in the trenches who is supposed to apply it in their world.

So how can we do that? I believe that when given more business context and

more practical examples of how the step-by-step process may look like, the

process of how diversity can help you bring your professional role to life

everyday and help you enhence fundamental

business processes in the direction of better results, then you will 1. be

listening 2. start playing with what's available and 3. eventually grab the

win, because there is a wind to grab. And the good news is these resources you

need to start moving in this direction are already available right now all

around you. Precious, leverageable assets you can

start agitating right away to boost competitive advantage, people

happiness and your influence throughout the process. OK,

what about getting practical with this now? Using a specific example? I would

like to pick a quite common corporate question, the transition to a new CRM

system - customer relationship management system - and consider the impact of

diversity on this process. Probably many of you have experienced a CRM transition in your company's so hopefully you can relate. The aspect of diversity I'm gonna

consider here is cultural diversity, one of the most pervasive in my opinion and

the dearest to my heart by the way. But before we get into the case, there is a

tiny but essential bit of stage setting I would do a stage setting now so that

next time - next week - we are ready to dive into our case of CRM transition. Pretty

much the only thing we need to set the stage is a minimalistic yet a very clear

way to look at any company - let's say your company - in a way that let us make sense

of the flow of recurring fundamental processes that keep your company alive,

operating and potentially profitable. We want to look at what shapes this

fundamental processes and how they drive the company's results through time, as

they happen and we will see how diversity comes in here. To keep it very

simple and business-oriented, the idea we can start from, in a super concentrated

nutshell, is that every single person in your team brings in a unique cultural

mix. It's a set of cultural dimensions shaped by personality, by national

culture of origin, and previous organizational cultures they experienced.

Every individual is contributing - or at least ready to contribute - their own

cultural input their own mix of dimensions. Hopefully, and most likely,

this inputs are not perfectly aligned. Most likely there is cultural diversity

in your team. So understanding the business basics of cultural diversity

really boils down to looking at how this cultural mixes shape an impact (because

they do) some fundamental organizational processes. It means how they impact

things that go on on a regular basis in your company. These processes are for

example - just to mention the most relevant ones - teamwork and yes: seeing

teamwork as a process is extremely helpful. And another one is the

decision-making process, be it collective or individual these are processes that

determine the long-term business success of your company and the long-term

well-being of the people too. Success unfolds along these processes it's through

teamwork and by making the right decision decisions -among other things -

that you set the right stepstones on the way to results. And workplace happiness

is created and nurtured along these processes as well, as they happen.

So to recap: individual culture mixes affect these fundamental processes - one

is teamwork - that affect success and happiness in your workplace. Ok, done! Once

we understand how the culture mixes shape teamwork - just to focus on this one

process - and how the success of a business unfolds and happens through

teamwork, once we get clear on this causality, then we can start addressing

how to touch it with purpose and what available assets we can leverage in this

suite in order to affect the bottom line. So here we have it: the absolutely

minimum thinking framework we need to start analyzing your real business situations

and see the impact of cultural diversity on the work you orcherstrate everyday

within your team. Next week, we will use it to jump into our CRM transition case

and see how you could bring value to the process by leveraging diversity. If you

What's in my Shower Bag? - Duration: 9:02.

hello friends it's standing welcome back to my channel today I was cleaning out

my shower bag and I figured I might as well go ahead and show you guys what I

carry in my shower bag so my actual shower bag is a hard case it has a strap

here where you can attach it to other luggage if you're flying or traveling

like that easy to clean I wipe it off with a wet one or whatever in the truck

and if something spills in here we've probably all had the lid come off the

shampoo or something gets a leak in it for some reason it just stays confined

to in this bag it doesn't you know leak through a cloth bag and on to other

things in the truck so this does have a separator in it so I've got two sides

one side I keep my products in and the other side I keep my clothes in so let's

go ahead and see what's in here the first thing your shower shoes

everybody needs to have shower shoes if you don't have shower shoes you're

probably gonna get foot fungus we've both seen those drivers but we have you

know if you take a shower ever have taken a shower in the pilot or the TA or

any truck stop I'm sure you've had to go in a shower and look at it and be like

you know this this is you can get cleaned at all they didn't even attempt

to you know wipe the hair out of the sink or they didn't clean the toilet off

at all you know so if they're not cleaning just the regular things that

you see that's blatantly obvious you know they're not cleaning the floor in

the shower good now they might spray it and run some water on it but that's not

good enough if they're sick fungus there you just don't want to take a chance of

catching it use your shower shoes okay lotion mine in the bath and Bodyworks

motion but in a truck I've noticed I could dry your skin I think it's because

I'm always in either the heat or the air-conditioning because in a shirt

that's what you do you're in the heat or air conditioning then I have a body

spray that matches the lotion that's kind of just a girly thing I keep it I

like it you know perfumes smells good I like it

next is suntan lotion you'll see here there's little dog bites on it where

someone thought she would chew it up thank goodness she didn't get all the

way through it but when I'm done showering I put this on my face at least

if I'm going to bed I may not put it on my arms and stuff but you know I have

the window open here days like today where it's sunny I put it all over

SPF 70 I burn like crazy you may or may not need it depending on your skin tone

but you know for me I have to have it okay something else

cute it you know pretty self-explanatory you gotta clean your ears clean whatever

q-tips pair of tweezers I also I pair fingernail clippers but I keep them in

the truck by me when I'm driving because it seems like when I'm driving is when I

find a hangnail and I apologize if I keep looking out

here if you guys watched my other video you know I'm in a motel in an area with

a lot of drug addicts and drug dealers so people make me nervous when they walk

by so I'm trying to get the video done so I can shut the window okay we've got

a bottle of shampoo and this is a small bottle you see metal next to my hand

it's not very big however I like the small bottle in my

bag and I keep a larger bottle in the truck

when I my smaller bottle you know gets below half maybe then I just refill it

out of the truck by the way I ain't carrying around a big heavy bottle of

shampoo when I'm just using it you know a little

dime or a quarter size thing in my hand I don't I don't feel like I need to

carry it around I don't like my bag being overstuffed and heavy so yogurt we

don't want to smell we all need deodorant and if you don't have

deodorant in your shower bag then you need to get something okay let's see I

have a spare toothbrush now this toothbrush isn't a real good toothbrush

it came from a motel that I was staying at and I had forgotten line in the truck

so I forgive you complimentary things if you call and ask the desk and I got this

really simple toothbrush it goes into a compartment on the side so nothing else

gets on it but I do keep it in there I keep my regular toothbrush and

toothpaste in the truck again you don't want to set your tooth brush down on the

counter you know the people probably didn't clean the counter good and if you

set it down even if you're setting it down on the back and it's flat you still

stick the whole thing in your mouth when you brush your teeth so just don't even

do it brush your teeth in the truck that's

what I do personal preference because I don't want something in my mouth that

has touched anything in the trick stuff so I'd know unless it's food you know

something that ain't been properly cleaned right hair brush pretty simple

this is a tangle free style hairbrush I have horrible tangly hair I've got some

personal hygiene items for the ladies I just keep them in there all the time

when I use those I throw some more in there you know no set amount or any

thing this is a job somebody walked by the window that is one of the purpose of

having dogs because no one is going to try and get in this room yeah you showed

up didn't you yeah this is a little holder that you

put on the back of your bra that pulls your straps in it kind of pulls these up

and pulls the back back so it actually looks better so you don't have stretched

showing depending on what you're wearing and this is fairly needed so I should be

able to hide my strips better in future videos I've got a razor I keep it in a

little case so I don't cut myself with it when it's rolling around but just a

simple razor okay a couple ponytail holders and I don't wish my hair

everyday I actually found out found through trial and error that and through

YouTube then if I don't wash it every day it grows better it doesn't break off

it ends up being healthier so you know if I shower every day which I like to as

long as like if the opportunity you know I just put my hair up in a ponytail

don't wash it and just wash it every two to three days or so

a man I like to say I have is some makeup and I know this isn't necessary

but I like it and I'm going out of the room today and do anything if I was in a

different hotel I would be outside the room and the dogs would be walking we'd

be sitting on the patio somewhere having a cappuccino or whatever we'd be out

exploring for our time off so for makeup I have just a loose powder to kind of

even out my face and of course the color is pale Thank You Alma for pointing that

out to me I'd never known help me see I have a silver it's not

liquid but it's it's a cream consistency color tattoo I shadow I have a lore'l

hairs what's it called infallible it's a powder eyeshadow covergirl white ones it

just is a regular one I have eyeliner and the mascara and I

have to makeup brushes and you'll notice both of these have container around them

anything that's loose like that like you know I put powder on it that powder is

gonna come out in my bag so anything that just gonna come out in your bag and

make a mess you probably just want to go ahead and keep it in a plastic in a

container like this a ziploc bag whatever you have available to you so it

doesn't make a mess so that's what's in my shower bag guys if you have any

we all know that person who doesn't keep their commitments they promise you this

they promise you that oh I'll call you tomorrow for sure oh yeah let's meet up

this weekend for sure a hundred percent and what happens when that time rolls

around when you get to that point there's always an excuse oh you know I'm

tired I just had a long week sorry we'll make it another time or

they don't even call you or whatever it is whatever the situation we all have

that type of person or life and we're all guilty of this in some capacity just

recently I started going to the gym early in the morning I've used been used

to going in the afternoons or the evenings but I've really wanted to

experiment and put to the test working out early in the morning before

I come into work 6:30 7 o'clock crushing a workout and then coming here to the

office after and I've been loving it so far I've been doing it for the last

month or so and a friend of mine is has had some trouble staying consistent

with the gym and he has asked me if I'd like to be his accountability partner

meaning we hold each other accountable we set a time that we're gonna be at the

gym we're not training partners we're not working out together we do our own

thing but just to get there at the time 6:30 we're at the gym we wish each other

well and then we get at it now two days ago or I should say yesterday yesterday

morning I'm getting up 5:50 a.m. my alarm goes off I'm getting my stuff

together 6:10 I get a text Jeremy I feel

like shit today you know my stomach there's something going on with my

stomach I've been up since 5:00 I got to opt out of the gym today I'm not gonna

make it I said I'm a response now I respect this guy you know but you know I

give him some tough love I said you get your ass to that gym by 6:30 son I'll

see you there he sent a response back no really my

stomach it something's up I can't my day thrown off you know

I gotta have a good day at work blah blah blah I get to the gym at 6:30 I

snap a shot of the entrance I sent it to him and that was it. ten minutes

later I'm getting ready in the in the change room he says you know what fuck

it I'm coming down there I don't want to be stuck with this feeling all day

leaving letting you down I'll be there in 15 minutes he shows up I was I

started doing a few exercises he shows up he's like thanks thanks for getting

on my ass today man I needed that and he had a great workout

I had a great workout we both felt great going into the day and I respect this

guy this message isn't an attack on my friend I respect him but we all need

that kick in the ass once in a while this is the message this is the core

message I'm trying to deliver to you today what separates the men from the

boys this is it right here the ability to act when you don't feel

like it let that sink in for a moment what separates the men from the boys or

the women from the girls this applies to women as well someone who owns their shit

okay who's not flaky who honors their word acts when they do not feel like it I

often don't feel like taking action but if I've made commitments it's more

painful for me to not honor that I've I've been telling myself enough stories

and framing things in a certain way in a certain light for so long that it's just

a habit of mine but there's still times I don't feel like it even this video

it's we had a tremendously busy couple months here at the office these it's

probably looking a lot more full back here with all these desks we're just

hiring like crazy there's so much going on I could have easily not done this

video tonight but I've made a commitment to myself that I want to do one of these

videos every week just put out a good piece of content every week and I honor

that even when I don't feel like it that's what separates the winners from

the losers men from the boys women from the girls however you want to frame this

but someone who gets things done someone who is a

high-performance person someone who accomplishes what they want to

accomplish I've talked about this many times in many different ways but I

wanted to frame it for you this way today acting when you do not feel like

it is so imperative and we an accountability partner is a great tool

for that because we often will let ourselves get away with it on our on

ourselves when we make a commitment that no one else knows about oh we can let

this slip oh you know no one really knows I made this commitment for weekly

videos I've just disclosed it to you now but I could easily slip and let things

uh you know do it when I feel like it I'll just do a video when I feel like it

you know once a month once every six weeks getting an accountability partner

is a great tool to hold yourself accountable and create that pain for

yourself because we often will let ourselves off the hook a lot easier than

if someone else is watching if someone else is depending on us use that to your

advantage use that fear use that pain creating that accountability person that

you have to answer to or you know is pushing themselves and then you're

flaking then you're being weak and you're going to let this person down

that's often enough to trigger the action if I'm giving you this if you

have trouble really honoring commitments find an accountability partner someone

on your level up here it doesn't have to be some high level person this is a

great peer-to-peer relationship where two of you are trying to accomplish

things you're holding each other accountable very powerful but you can't

be dependent on that you have to depend on yourself to honor your word and your

commitment to yourself and create that pain to not following through because

dabbling with it here and there wasn't really taking it seriously like a

profession and he is sitting on at a cafe in New York City on a restaurant

and he notices some construction workers eating across the street and they're

just finishing up you know they're grabbing their gear they're grabbing

their helmet and they're slugging it back to work and Seinfeld had this

awakening moment where he's like those construction workers don't want to go

back to work they don't want to go back to work now you can argue they have to

answer to someone and they'll get fired if they don't but that's not the that's

not the point here they don't want to go but they pick up their shit after their

break and they go back to work and Jerry things transformed for him in that moment

he said where he said he was like that's how I got to approach my comedy it's not

like when I feel like it when it feels good all right pick your ass up and get

to work just like those construction workers

people forget Vaheguru and become intoxicated in the Sukh of this world

The longer this time is the worse it is

because we forget Vaheguru for the whole duration

and secondly when this dream of Sukh ends it results in unbearable dukh

The person being used to sukh is unable to bear the dukh

and sometimes people commit suicide due to this

Life is wasted

That is why Guru jee referred to worldly sukh as a disease

Dukh is a medicine because man tries to get out of Dukh by remembering Vaheguru

Sukh is a disease because it takes us away from Vaheguru

but if some fortunate Gursikh remembers Vaheguru during sukh also then dukh never comes

meaning if we just remember Vaheguru in the start then why would Dukh ever come

There is only one way to save yourself during these conditions

Being steadfast in Gurmat

joining your happiness with Naam and Gurbani

and not getting stuck in the transient sukh of this world

there is no worldly sukh which can compare with sukh obtained by doing Paath with Dhiyan

The entertainment is to be had by doing Veechar of a Shabad cannot be found elsewhere

the entertaining astonishment which is obtained in the realms of Keertan

can not be found at any Wonderland or Disney land

Just like the women is not happy without her husband

same way we cannot be happy without our Vaheguru

with this are two times when Gursikh should never forget Vaheguru jee

We have already spoken about not forgetting Vaheguru during time of happiness

but remembering Vaheguru with in rage is also very important

when someone acting in anger does someone wrong

or takes out his Anger on someone else

at that time he has forgotten Vaheguru's fear

What is a Musical Period? | Forms 101 - Duration: 4:41.

Hi.

Welcome to the Listener's Guide.

I'm Steve, and we've talked some about short musical forms on this channel, and we're

gonna get to some longer ones, but before we do, it may be a useful to go briefly into

the nitty-gritty of how musical ideas worked in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

I like to compare this kind of music to writing, and before we get into how to read an essay,

it will be useful to learn how we can build an idea out of clauses and sentences.

In music, we refer to these smaller structures as "phrases."

These are more or less complete musical ideas that a composer can string together in different

ways to make a much longer piece.

One type of phrase we'll discuss today is called a "period."

Many people like to talk about this as a musical question-and-answer.

It'll probably make more sense if you listen to it—let's have an example!

So this is the main theme of Haydn's last symphony, number 104.

Let's listen to the question that he sets up.

You can tell we came to a resting point at the end of that musical idea, but

it does not sound final.

If you remember from our cadence video that is because we've reached a cadence, but

not the root of the scale.

This musical idea ends just a little higher than the root and it feels incomplete.

So Haydn has to provide an answer to his question.

Just as your teachers probably told you to do on a test, he starts by repeating part

of the question, but he comes to a more final conclusion.

This is called a "parallel period" because of that structure—the answer starts

out the same way as the question, which helps create a sense of musical unity in the idea.

Let's hear another example of a parallel period, this time from Mozart.

Here's the question…

and the answer.

You can see the same basic concept, but this time the answer to the question starts

on a different pitch.

And that's okay!

It doesn't have to be an exact repetition of the notes, but as long as you can tell

it's the same material, we still call it parallel.

The second main type of period is called a contrasting period.

This is one where the answer to the question does not repeat any of the question, but instead

gives something entirely new.

Here's the "question" from one of Beethoven's more famous periods.

Hopefully after hearing a couple of periods, you can intuitively understand the

break there and the sense that more music has to come to finish the idea.

Maybe you've even got some ideas of how that could happen, and that's great!

Or maybe you're still trying to get your bearings and you're mad that I haven't

given you the answer yet.

Well, here it is!

Even though Beethoven repeated nothing of the musical question,

this answer brings it to a satisfying conclusion.

And that's really all there is to musical periods!

These tiny building blocks may seem simple, but they form the foundation of musical works

that are much, much longer.

Now, of course, they're not the only way eighteenth- and nineteenth-century composers

would write phrases, but to learn about the rest, you're going to have to like and subscribe
