U2's Bono breaks silence on shock near-death experience: 'It was physical for me'

The U2 frontman has revealed a near-death encounter inspired the bands hotly-anticipated new album Songs of Experience. In a candid interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Bono — real name Paul David Hewson — referred to the incident as an extinction event.

And while he admitted the health scare was physical in nature, the 57-year-old declined to give any exact details on what threatened to take his life.

Explaining his outlook, the Dublin-born star said: People have these extinction events in their lives — it could be psychological or it could be physical.

And, yes, it was physical for me, but I think I have spared myself all that soap opera. Revealing he wants to leave fans to reach their own conclusions, Bono continued: Especially with this kind of celebrity obsession with the minutiae of peoples lives - I have got out of that.

I want to speak about the issue in a way that lets people fill in the blanks of what they have been through, you know? Despite the scary experience, the City Of Blinding Lights singer — who cites mortality as an influence on his latest music — is aware of his privileged position.

"People have these extinction events in their lives. it was physical for me" Bono Detailing his approach to life, he mused: I am the f***** luckiest man on Earth.

I didnt think that I had a fear of a fast exit. Bonos U2 bandmate The Edge — real name David Howell Evan — has also spoken of the frontmans dice with death.

Making sure to protect his friends privacy, the 56-year-old told Rolling Stone last month: He [Bono] definitely had a serious moment, which caused him to reflect on a lot of things.

But where that brought him to as a writer was an amazing place. This isnt the first time Bonos health has been a cause of concern, with the main main describing his scares as shocks to the system.

In 2000, the celebrated talent was tested for throat cancer by a specialist. Luckily, much to the relief of the singer and his worldwide fanbase, the scare turned out to be a false alarm.

Huge 100-man brawl erupts near Brit pub as lad, 22, stabbed and others hurt by bottles

Several other people were injured by flying bottles during the melee that broke out in Essex just before midnight on Christmas Eve.

The fighting spilled onto surrounding streets after a private party at the The Green pub in Stanford-le-Hope.  A 22-year-old man is in a serious condition at Basildon Hospital. Cops are still probing what caused the large-scale brawl. .

Officers are at the scene trying to piece together events that led to the melee. They want to speak to anyone who was at the nearby pub party.

Any drivers who may have captured the commotion on their dashcam are also urged to contact officers. It is understood that no one has been arrested so far.

It was not the only trouble to erupt in the UK over Christmas, with a man stabbed to death in a packed restaurant in Middlesbrough on Christmas Eve. .

"There will have been many people who would have seen the events both leading up to and of the man being assaulted" Det Insp Natalie Rooney There was also a large-scale brawl outisde a Walsall nightclub on Friday night which resulted in a 20-year-old lad being stabbed.

Det Insp Natalie Rooney said: There was a private party being held in a marque at the rear of the Inn on the Green and there will have been many people who would have seen the events both leading up to and of the man being assaulted.

My team need to speak to all of those people. Anyone with information should contact detectives at Grays CID on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
