Retailers are reporting record holiday sales this season of $598 billion as of Christmas

Eve, fueled by confidence in the pro-business, pro-jobs economic polices of President Donald

Trump of cutting Obama-era regulations and enacting major tax cuts and reforms.

Yet media reports by CBS, AP and the Wall Street Journal all failed to mention President

Trump in their reports on the record sales.

The Drudge Report however is leading Monday night with a photo and headline crediting

Trump with the boom in sales over a link to the WSJ article that doesn�t credit Trump,

CBS News reported Monday night without mentioning Trump at all:

Total retail sales this holiday season added up to a record $598 billion dollars � up

$33 billion from last year.

�This is literally the best season since before the recession,� business owner Craig

Johnson said.

Johnson�s company, Customer Growth Partners, analyzes all things retail.

He credits low unemployment and a booming stock market for this humbug-free holiday

season.

�The single biggest drive of retail sales is growth in real disposable income,� he

said.

�And when real income goes up, people have money in their pocket and they�re able to

spend it.�

The AP also cited Johnson about the sales boom and failed to mention Trump at all:

Experts have issued rosy forecasts for the season.

Shoppers seemed to be in the mood with unemployment at a 17-year low and consumer sentiment at

its highest level since 2000.

�Shoppers have been spending at a pace not seen since the Great Recession, says Craig

Johnson, president of retail consulting group Customer Growth Partners.�

Using a different source, the Wall Street Journal (also via Fox Business) reported sales

were up almost 5%, but did not mention Trump at all:

Retailers are enjoying some extra Christmas cheer.

Fueled by high consumer confidence and a robust job market, U.S. retail sales in the holiday

period rose at their best pace since 2011, according to Mastercard SpendingPulse, which

tracks both online and in-store spending.

Sales, excluding automobiles, rose 4.9% from Nov. 1 through Christmas, compared with a

3.7% gain in the same period last year, according to the Mastercard Inc. unit, which tracks

all forms of payment.

E-commerce continued to drive the gains, rising 18.1%.

�Unlike in past years, when spending was driven by high-income shoppers, this holiday

season a broader swath of the population opened their wallets, encouraged by rising wages

and low unemployment, analysts and economists said.

�Fewer people are living paycheck to paycheck,� said Chris Christopher, executive director

of economic-research firm IHS Markit.

�There is a lot more spending from the lower- and middle-income groups, while the upper-income

groups are splurging.�

The failure of the media to even mention President Trump�s policies as a factor in the record

holiday sales is yet another example of why his poll numbers are low.

In contrast the media gave former President Barack Obama credit for every meager sign

of growth such that it was lampooned by South Park in the Margaritaville episode about the

Great Recession (via Wikipedia):

In a scene resembling that of the Last Supper, Kyle and his friends go out for pizza where

The news acknowledges President Barack Obama for the sacrifices he made and credits him

for bringing these improvements in the economy leaving Kyle infuriated shouting �Come on!�.

North Korea warning: Defectors living near nuclear test site suffering RADIATION exposure

The underground facility at Punggye-ri has been used to detonate six nuclear bombs since 2006, and the network of tunnels allows to test its latest weapons out of sight from spy planes and surveillance satellites.

Four former residents of Kilju County, where the subterranean test site is located, have now tested positive for radiation exposure, according to scientists at South Korea's Atomic Energy Research Institute.

The group are among 30 who used to live in Kilju and have been examined by officials in Seoul since October, Unification Ministry spokesman Baik Tae-hyun said.

However researchers were unable to confirm whether the radiation exposure was related to the nuclear tests.

Earlier this month, several defectors who were in contact with family in the North said residents still living near Punggye-ri were suffering from an mysterious debilitating illness which locals had dubbed "ghost disease".

The defectors said their loved ones were facing symptoms including headaches and vomiting as well as birth defects among newborn babies. And locals also reported the mountainous landscape was turning into a barren wasteland, with trees dying and underground wells drying up.

Speaking in Seoul earlier this month, defector Lee Jeong Hwa : "So many people died we began calling it 'ghost disease'. "We thought we were dying because we were poor and we ate badly.

Now we know it was the radiation. Rhee Yeong Sil, who lived just a few miles from Punggye-ri until she defected in 2013, said her neighbour had given birth to a deformed baby.

She said: "We couldn't determine the gender of the baby, because it didn't have any genitals.

Seoul says the four North Koreans tested were exposed to radiation between May 2009 and January 2013, but defected before Kim Jong-un's most recent test in September, which the regime claimed was a hugely powerful hydrogen bomb.

Following the "ghost disease" reports, specialists at Seoul National University ran tests on many of the defectors but the results came back negative.

Speaking earlier this month, Suh Kune-yull, a professor of nuclear engineering at the university, said he believed their accounts of their symptoms, but tests did not back up their claims.  He said: I don't think they're lying.

We have to take their word, but I don't have much reliable information. The Punggye-ri facility has been continually expanded since it was first used to test nuclear weapons in 2006, and satellite pictures show three entrances to the subterranean network.

In October, around 100 workers were killed when several tunnels collapsed.

A further 100 were reportedly killed in a second collapse while trying to dig out the first group.  A study published by the US-Korea Institute at Johns Hopkins University on October 17 concluded the latest test had caused "substantial damage" to the tunnel network.

The report warned further tests at Punggye-ri could "cause the mountain to collapse and release radioactivity into the environment".

A newly-found bus-sized asteroid is due to come close to Earth today - at speeds of more than 21,000mph (34,000km/h).

Named 2017 YZ4, the asteroid was only spotted on Christmas Day, which means very little could have been done to protect Earth if it were to hit.

The asteroid will pass between the Earth and moon at a distance of just 139,433 miles (224,000 km) - close enough to be considered a near miss by astronomers.

The potentially hazardous asteroid, which is 22. 6 to 49 feet in diameter (seven to 15 metres) is due to skim past Earth at 4. 56pm GMT (11. 56 ET) this afternoon.

Nasa describes asteroids as hazardous if they come within the 4,600,000 mile (7,403,00km) threshold of proximity to our planet.

A previously unseen asteroid is due to brush past Earth today - at a speed of more than 21,000 miles an hour (34,000kmh) (stock image).

  Named 2017 YZ4, the asteroid was only spotted on Christmas Day and will pass between the Earth and moon at a distance of just 139,433 miles (224,000km) - close enough to be considered a near miss by astronomers.

For reference, the distance between the Earth and the moon is 238,855 miles (384,400 km).  The small asteroid, which is 22.6 to 49 feet in diameter (seven to 15 metres) is due to skim past Earth at 4.56pm GMT (11.56 ET) this afternoon.

Anything that flies closer than six million miles of our planet is a near earth asteroid and could cause severe damage were it ever to crash into Earth.  In February 2013 a 19-metre meter (62-feet) meteor exploded in the skies above Chelyabinsk in Russia.

The energy - which was equivalent to 500,000 tonnes of TNT - and injured more than 1,000 people.   .

The asteroid was first spotted at Mount Lemmon Survey Observatory in Arizona and will be the 52nd to pass between Earth and the moon this year.

If it were on a collision course with Earth, Nasa could look at options for deflecting it, or changing the velocity of the object by less than an inch per second years in advance of the predicted impact.

This is the first known asteroid to flyby Earth within one lunar distance since two such asteroids flew past us 35 minutes apart on November 21, and the 52nd this year, a Nasa spokesperson told the Express.

As of December 24, there are 17,495 known Near-Earth Objects (NEOs) around our planet; 17,389 are asteroids.

This year, we discovered 1,985 new near Earth asteroids.

There were 1888 such objects discovered in 2016 and 1,571 in 2015..

  During a recent pass of another asteroid, Nasa used its international network of observatories to recover, track and characterise asteroid 2012 TC4.

As it started to approach Earth in the coming months, large telescopes were used to detect it and establish the asteroids precise trajectory.

The new observations have helped refine knowledge about its orbit, narrowing the uncertainty about how far it will be from Earth in future passes.

This means its larger than previously thought, by about 0. 6 miles (one kilometre).

It passed by Earth this month at about 27 times the distance between our planet and the moon.

Before its approach, NASA revealed asteroid 3200 Phaethon is classed as potentially hazardous.

The latest approach is the closest the asteroid has been to Earth since December 16, 1974, when it was around 5 million miles away - although we were blissfully unaware at the time.

In a statement about the asteroid, which was first discovered in 1983, a spokesperson for Nasa said: With a diameter of about 5km, Phaethon is the third largest near-Earth asteroid classified as Potentially Hazardous.

The next pass is predicted to be in 2093 when it is expected to pass at just over 1. 8 million miles (2. 9 million kilometres) away.

TAIPEI (Reuters) - Chinas air force has carried out 16 rounds of exercises close to Taiwan in the last year or so, Taiwans defense ministry said on Tuesday, warning that Chinas military threat was growing by the day.

China considers self-ruled and democratic Taiwan to be its sacred territory and has never renounced the use of force to bring what it views as a wayward province under Chinese control.

China has taken an increasingly hostile stance towards Taiwan since Tsai Ing-wen from the islands pro-independence Democratic Progressive Party won presidential elections last year.

Beijing suspects her of pushing for the islands formal independence, a red line for China.

Tsai says she wants peace with China, but that she will defend Taiwans security and way of life.

In a lengthy report, Taiwans defense ministry listed the number of times Chinas air force had drilled near the island since the end of October last year and which aircraft were involved, including bombers and advanced fighter jets.

Of the 16 drills, 15 of them were around Taiwan, flying through the Bashi Channel which separates Taiwan from the Philippines and near Japans Miyako island, to the north of Taiwan.

The other drill was through the Bashi Channel and out into the Pacific.

China has repeatedly said the drills are routine.

Taiwans defense ministry said China was the islands biggest security threat.

The Chinese militarys strength continues to grow rapidly, it said.

There have been massive developments in military reforms, combined operations, weapons development and production, the building of overseas military bases and military exercises, and the military threat towards us grows daily.

Chinese missiles can already cover all of Taiwan, and China has been improving its abilities in long-range anti-ship missiles to build an ability to resist foreign forces, the ministry added.

Tensions rose earlier this month after a senior Chinese diplomat threatened that China would invade Taiwan if any U.S.

warships made port visits there.

Taiwan is well equipped with mostly U.

-made weapons, but has been pressing Washington to sell more advanced equipment.

The United States is bound by law to provide Taiwan with the means to defend itself, to Chinas distaste.

Proudly democratic Taiwan has shown no interest in being run by autocratic China, and Taiwans government has accused Beijing of not understanding what democracy is all about when it criticizes Taipei.

Huge 100-man brawl erupts near Brit pub as lad, 22, stabbed and others hurt by bottles

Several other people were injured by flying bottles during the melee that broke out in Essex just before midnight on Christmas Eve.

The fighting spilled onto surrounding streets after a private party at the The Green pub in Stanford-le-Hope.  A 22-year-old man is in a serious condition at Basildon Hospital. Cops are still probing what caused the large-scale brawl. .

Officers are at the scene trying to piece together events that led to the melee. They want to speak to anyone who was at the nearby pub party.

Any drivers who may have captured the commotion on their dashcam are also urged to contact officers. It is understood that no one has been arrested so far.

It was not the only trouble to erupt in the UK over Christmas, with a man stabbed to death in a packed restaurant in Middlesbrough on Christmas Eve. .

"There will have been many people who would have seen the events both leading up to and of the man being assaulted" Det Insp Natalie Rooney There was also a large-scale brawl outisde a Walsall nightclub on Friday night which resulted in a 20-year-old lad being stabbed.

Det Insp Natalie Rooney said: There was a private party being held in a marque at the rear of the Inn on the Green and there will have been many people who would have seen the events both leading up to and of the man being assaulted.
