Psychopathy and schizoid PD both have very many differences. However, I have decided to compare and contrast their similarities, to help better your understanding. I am open to corrections of course.
They both have an empathy deficit. Psychopaths have a blunt affect, whereas schizoids have a flattened affect (usually).
They are both absent of delusions. (As much as people like to think that psychopaths are grandiose-inflated narcissists and schizoids are schizophrenic.) Just. Schizoids love solitude, that is a defining feature. They are extreme versions of introverts.
Psychopaths are not always introverted, and usually enjoy maintaining at least few relationships. It is extremely unlikely that a schizoid can be extroverted by nature, if not impossible. It is akin to saying that psychopaths can also have bipolar or depression.
Covert schizoids are those who appear as extroverted and charming, but would truly just rather be left alone. So yes, its a bit like a psychopaths "mask" but still different.
Not all of them do it for this reason, but they often do it to avoid intimacy, while achieving personal gain. Whether its because they work in a highly social job or otherwise.
Psychopaths must wear masks to survive, it is out of necessity, and dont fake masks because they secretly want to be alone.
Schizoids also score higher on cognitive empathy and lower on emotional empathy like psychopaths, however this will vary greatly in Schizoids, more so than it would with psychopathy. Overt Schizoids, which are traditional schizoids, lack other emotions/feelings that psychopaths typically dont.
As in, they also fall on the asexuality spectrum, they "suffer" from the inability to feel pleasure and are indifferent to criticism and praise.
Psychopaths can be indifferent as well, but these Schizoids often lack the ability to merit any sort of emotional response. For example, if you insult them or cheat on them, they dont even get angry.
They truly just dont care. Psychopaths cannot connect with people emotionally. Schizoids can, but exclusively if they do. Psychopaths are born, and schizoid PD can be "made" in a person.
It is not well researched, but it usually requires a genetic component, intertwined along with nature and environment to create such a personality. There is another theory that they have forcibly desensitized themselves, to deal with whatever vulnerabillity they might have had to something.
Also, schizoid PD is more versatile than psychopathy in terms of its comorbidity. Psychopaths are immune to other certain mental conditions that require a sense of emotional upheaval, I.e depression.
But it is possible to have a schizoidal psychopath, or, a depressive schizoid as well as just a traditional one.
