An earthquake with the 'strongest magnitude' yet has been recorded at the controversial fracking site in Lancashire
Cuadrilla, the company carrying out the fracking work, says it has paused its operation after the seismic event measuring 1
1 magnitude. Over the weekend, another tremor measuring 0.76 ML on the Richter scale was recorded, prompting Cuadrilla into an 18-hour stop to work - at a cost of £94,000 per day to the shale gas firm
The latest level of seismicity is classed as a red event, according to the traffic light monitoring system which is regulated by the Oil and Gas Authority (OGA)
Seven small 'earthquakes' have been recorded in the space of the last week. Last Wednesday morning more small tremors were detected but Cuadrilla said they were within operating expectations
Fracking at the site only resumed on the 13th of October following an eight-tear break after a campaigner lost a High Court battle against Cuadrilla
Environmental campaigner Bob Dennett had claimed Lancashire County Council's emergency response planning and procedures for the site were inadequate
But the appeal was lost and the site reopened - with protests resuming on the roads outside
Earlier this month, protesters known as 'The Fracking Three' had their jail terms quashed after their highly divisive imprisonment
Soil scientist Simon Blevins, 26, from Sheffield, teacher Richard Roberts, 36 of London, and piano restorer Rich Loizou, 32, from Devon, are believed to be the first environmental activists to be imprisoned for public nuisance since 1932

" In a statement on the latest tremor, the company said: "Cuadrilla can confirm that a micro seismic event measuring 1
1ML (local magnitude) was detected at about 11.30am today (Monday, October 29) whilst the team were hydraulically fracturing at our exploration site in Preston New Road, Little Plumpton, Lancashire
"This is the latest micro seismic event to be detected by the organisation's highly sophisticated monitoring systems and verified by the British Geological Survey (BGS)
"This will be classed as a 'red' event as part of the traffic light system operated by the Oil and Gas Authority but as we have said many times this level is way below anything that can be felt at surface and a very long way from anything that would cause damage or harm
"In line with regulations, hydraulic fracturing has paused for 18 hours now, during which seismicity will continue to be closely monitored by ourselves and the relevant regulators
