Brent, thank you so much for joining us again.

Always a pleasure, thank you.

Alright, so we're here at VRIC, the first conference of the year.

Let's start maybe by talking about the main trends you saw in the exploration sector in

2018.

And do you expect any of them to carry into 2019?

Yeah, I think what we've been seeing last year and somewhat the year before — and

I expect to increase this year

is we're going to see mining companies — producing companies — continue investing

in early stage exploration via either private placement financings in companies

or joint ventures with companies.

And that's coming about because they're looking down the pipeline

And they are not finding enough new metal, new deposits

to replace what they're mining.

And they're finding it is much more efficient time-wise and cost-wise

to go via a junior explorer operating in an area they're interested in rather than trying

to set up their whole team and do it on their own.

So I think that's going to continue.

And were there any surprises last year in the sector?

Anything that happened that maybe you were not expecting?

I mean, the big mega mergers — I am somewhat surprised, but I guess it makes sense in retrospect.

Not sure it's a good or bad thing, but it's happening.

It was a worse year than I thought it would be, how's that?

That was a surprise.

And when it comes down to it there were not very many discoveries.

You know, anything that looked like it was a discovery, almost every one of those ended

up being a failure.

There were very few discoveries.

Great.

And so let's talk about exploration due diligence.

From your experience, when looking at a company and evaluating a company, what would you say

is the first maybe warning signal that this might be such a good investment?

That's a good question.

I think for anyone obviously your interest is generated somehow.

You go to the website, if it's a news release, you look at the news release.

That release should contain enough information that you can evaluate the results.

And what I mean by that is you need complete assay results, you need a plan map, potentially

a section map, that kind of tells you what's going on — even if you're not technically

competent to really understand it, if the company's presenting all that information

to you it tells you they're trying to be honest and give it to you.

Oftentimes you go there and that information's not there.

That suggests to me that they're incompetent or trying to hide something.

So that's the number one — you can screen so many out that way.

And then after that I think it's important that you talk to the people in charge to see if they

have a concept of how much it's going to cost to find what they're looking for, what that's

going to look like and how they're going to know when they fail.

You need to know when you fail.

And in terms of maybe more of the macro level, what would you say are some of the factors

investors should be keeping an eye out for in 2019 that could impact the exploration

sector?

Well I think number one is the US dollar, and confidence in the US dollar I think is

rolling over.

You know, the general global markets are slowing if not rolling over.

The economics around the world are stalling if not rolling over.

And then we've got Trump in the US who is doing his best to decimate the goodwill the

US has generated over the past decades, at best.

That's going to impact the US dollar.

We're losing our allies, confidence in the US dollar is declining.

And gold should get some of the money coming off of that.

Not a lot, it won't take much.

But it'll start looking like another safe place to put your money.

So I think that's what to watch for, is what the US dollar is going to do.

Right. And this year, what would be your best piece of advice or suggestions for investors that are

maybe looking to jump into the exploration sector?

In the exploration sector you're not investing, you're speculating.

That's important to keep in mind.

And due diligence is key.

I mean we made — in Exploration Insights we've made good money on stocks that look

good, look good, the drill [results] are good and eventually fail.

Because we were able to pick that bit of information that tells us this thing is going to fail,

or it's not working, whatever — it's closing off the metallurgy.

If you can just do the due diligence and pick that ahead of the crowd you can still make

money on what turns out to be a failure.

So that's sort of what I think is really important as well.

Alright, and my final question for you today.

Could you give our audience maybe your top stock pick for this year, or what type of

companies you like right now?

We — we bought some stocks last year in the anticipation of the gold price rising.

That would be Premier Gold, which is one we've held for a long time as well.

I like what Premier Gold's doing.

I think Mirasol Resources is at a good level.

I think Evrim Resources is at a reasonable level.

So those are three that I think are reasonably safe unless everything blows up.

already out there that allows you to get your music distributed and have it

streamed or downloaded on multiple platforms however ultimately you want to

be able to take charge of your income directly and not be overly reliant on

these third party platforms

is to take responsibility for your business growth and development now this

is going to ultimately require somewhat of a mindset shift which is going to

help you to then set a direction for where you need to go with your music

personality anyway so it's just a matter of honing those good parts of you that

are going to be appealing to other people and making sure that you have a

clear set of values and things that you stand for this is going to result in the

type of connections that you make with not

fans but with other artists or other musicians for collaborations this is

going to help you with decision making because you're going to have a clear set

of values that represents you as a brand and it comes down to the personality and

what you want to bring to the fore as well now the key thing here at the heart

of this are ultimately the fans that you're trying to connect with if they

don't feel that what you do represents them or they don't feel they have a

connection in some sort of way with you then you won't necessarily be growing

your fan base so you need to have a clear understanding of who your audience

who your ideal fans are and know what they're like and what they're expecting

once you have a clear understanding and a clear profile of your ideal fans

you'll be able to start making decisions around that and be able to do the most

effective things for you as it pertains to marketing and reaching these type of

fans knowing where they are where they hang out what their geographical

location is their age group understanding how they think and the

things that resonate with them the things they like is going to help you

with what you put out in the world to attract these people and have them

convert into actual fans that are going to support you and advocate for you and

grow your independent music business so number three is to provide upfront value

and to grow your following and what that means is that you need to be able to

have something that people are coming to you for your ideal fans they need to be

able to see that okay this person this artist this musician this producer is

actually providing me with some value and there are many different ways you

can approach this there's a book called Jab Jab Jab right hook by Gary

Vaynerchuk or Gary Vee he is somebody that is really well versed in marketing

and he's written several books and he has his own YouTube channel so you can

check him out buy his book Jab Jab Jab right hook talks about giving value

first fool you go in for the ask a lot of

musicians feel that they all they need to do on social media is promote promote

promote and ask people to buy stuff or even in day-to-day life you you know

those people on the street sometimes I don't know if you still bump into them

from time to time but they like they're like okay yeah come on by and buy more

music buy my music you don't know anything about them you don't know what

they're about they're just meeting you for the first

time and they're trying to get you to buy something now put yourself in the

shoes of somebody who is being sold to if you walk into a store you don't want

to always be bombarded with the assistant coming over and asking or do

you need any help you need any help yeah let me know I'm over here a lot of times

they're on Commission and they're just trying to make sure they secure that

sell and it can be super annoying if you just want to browse around and see if

you like something and should just be in your own head at that point in time so

it's the same principle you want to be able to give something first and Jab Jab

Jab right hook refers to the fact that you should at least be given three

things out away providing providing value on three occasions at least before

you go and ask for something back whether this is to buy something or to

sign up to something or whatever the case might be you need to be providing

value so you have something in the bank already in a way that people will look

and say okay you know what they've given me so much value already that I'm happy

to support them with giving them something back by reciprocating it's far

easier to maintain an existing fan than to go after new fans so you want to make

sure that you're consistently providing value and nurturing the fans that you

already have by always showing up and always making sure that you're catering

to their needs which is going to help you maintain a long lasting relationship

that they're gonna support you no matter what you do no matter what you put out

unless you obviously do something I strum astronomically negative or bad

then obviously you're not going to do that but you want to make sure that you

secure long lasting relationships when it comes on to your fan base now the

fourth point I want to make fourth and final point is own your own

website platform what this is going to do for you is allow you to be entirely

independent of third party options third party platforms that gives you the

options to sell your music or to distribute or to allow people to stream

or to be to allow people to buy your products if you have your own website

you're not gonna be beholding to these platforms that can be quite restrictive

or they can change their rules on you as time goes by

which may not be beneficial to the way you'd like to do business and to the the

experience that you want to provide if you have your own website there are

three things that I'm gonna say that are important that you need to take into

consideration one you'll be able to provide your own user experience you'll

be able to provide the experience you want to your fans when they come on to

your website or your web page because you have ultimate control over what goes

into your site and you can carve out that unique experience number two is

that you'll have the opportunity to market in a more effective way because

you'll be able to potentially capture email addresses and build an email list

by giving something away of value like I mentioned before you may want to do this

by giving free downloads of your music or you may want to give away some

tickets or something there's all kinds of options that you have that you can

use as a way to build an email list and this is where you'll have the

opportunity to then do ongoing marketing this is one of the most effective ways

to provide ongoing value through an email list and be able to then market to

your fans directly and guess what if a platform goes down somewhere you have

your email list already secured you'll still be able to contact on connect with

your existing fans because you've taken the time to build your digital real

estate as far as a website and an email list is concerned the third point on

this that I want to make is that you'll also be able to sell

directly to your fans you'll be able to sell your music your merchandise or any

other products for that matter that you want to put out there you will be able

to directly go straight to your fans without having to go through these

middlemen who will ultimately take a portion of your revenue so you keep a

hundred percent of your revenue except for running costs obviously so

this is a big big deal in terms of taking charge of your income it's

something that I strongly advocate for and I believe that even if you are on

all these other third party platforms you still need to have your own website

that people can come to and you call that your home and you provide all those

things and be able to do all those things that I've mentioned before

innocent it's not click funnels but it's something else so guys there's no excuse

this is you can do this for free you don't have to spend any money like

nothing zero you can I start at this YouTube channel for free you can you can

go and make money online for free it's crazy

so you need to do the keywords guys and you'll see how I've done this create a

landing page you get the point but you you've got you wonder why do people do

this because that's what people are searching for guys now if you start this

YouTube channel and you find you're not getting the traction you want and you're

not really making any money and not getting any views what I recommend you

landing page and people ask questions how do you create a landing page and you

go and answer these questions and drop a link to your video so you go answer and

I can just be like hey hey check this video it should help you now people say

that this doesn't work but I'm going to show you that it does work in a second

banned I have all of a lot of my videos here we keep going keep going keep going

heaps of my videos that's how I initially gave my channel a boost to get

traffic and then start to get subscribers guys okay so it's simple you

go and get you start doing you know so let's say get response for example you

can go how to create an email list how to use get response get response review

best way to use get response guys there's literally thousands of keywords

you can target there is thousands you can just go and

take these keywords and do different variations there are so many keywords

you can target and what when you to optimize your arm thing guys you just

put it in the title and you write a description as well and you put it in

the description and you do the tags okay so how do you create a landing page how

to create a landing page of WordPress how to create a landing page and

WordPress again I put that in twice how silly me or enter on WordPress landing

page okay now there's another trick to the skies and the thing is YouTube has

multiple traffic sources these are the three top ones is more but we've got

search traffic people searching keywords so this is where most of my traffic

comes from okay we have browse traffic there's traffic from the YouTube

homepage and we have suggested views you can Jack traffic from other videos so

you go and find other videos that are kind of like so let's say hey we do how

to create a landing page and we like hey this video here is got 149 thousand

views you go into a video similar to that and you use the same kind of tags

not exactly the same similar tags similar title some of the description

and not always for a lot of the times YouTube will be like hey people are

watching this video it's similar to your video we're going to suggest that video

to these people right and that's how a lot of people get traffic on YouTube and

stuff like that now guys you can take it to another

level okay which is what I do as well okay I'm showing you everything that I

do fully transparent here you can use a website called rev.com

and you can transcript your videos into text you can start a website I know I

said you can do this without a website you can start a website and this is an

example here where I started a website this is one of them one of my main

websites we get a lot of traffic here I put it in the video and then I put in

the transcription and down here now what happens with this guys this is going to

go ranked in Google now so we're gonna start getting Google traffic as well and

you build up this massive network of traffic and you start to make sales so

what I would do is I would take my how to create a landing page video and I'll

be like hey go to Rev calm I would log it purchase the service it's

$1 per minute so I would pay how long does this video go forth I would pay $30

to get it transcribed you know this this isn't free right obviously this is just

a bit of an extra bonus and then I would go and make a website and put the

transcription on to here they send it to you in a file and you just paste it onto

here and edit it if you need to it's that simple guys it's that easy now

making this you know making money online isn't easy guys like you're not just

going to start making $100 straightaway as you can see from this particular

graph it took me a while to start scaling up the met you know the email

email software Commission's but that that was purely from email YouTube

videos sorry so if we go and create an email list you will see my video here so

how to build a profitable email list and what I only posted that a month ago I do

have other email videos but this boosted up my Commission's just that video alone

right so that's it guys that's how you can go to make over a hundred dollars a

do this I actually started with Google websites but then I transferred into

YouTube as well as another traffic source and it's a great traffic source

My mother was like, "How'd you get a credit card?"

What are some of the big money mistakes that you've made?

I got married in college.

The day before my 21st birthday, I got married.

And I had every credit card you can get because in school, they gave you a card.

There were people who had full-time jobs, and they were like, "I can't get a credit card."

And I ran those suckers up.

I bought VCRs, back in the day.

See I'll let you know how old I am.

TVs, I bought furniture for the apartment... and I could not pay it back.

I had so much debt that the neighbor in my apartment complex came down, had one of those

long corded phones.

It wasn't cordless.

He was like, "Dude, the bill collectors are calling me about you."

I was like, "I got a problem!"

Could you imagine getting a knock on the door and the bill collectors are calling your neighbors?

No!

That was nuts.

What did you do?

I was like, "Hey man, sorry about that."

(laughs) And I slammed the door.

Let me tell you, I took the stuff back.

I had to take the stuff back to the store.

My wife the whole time was like, "Don't do this, don't do this."

But every money mistake I ever made is because I was trying to keep up with people that I

was trying to impress and I really didn't like anyway.

camera guy right we got to be like a you turn into this like news anchor guy or

gal or whatever right you gonna everybody this is Vick blah blah blah

blah that stuff doesn't work okay you got to grab their attention

how can you grab their attention maybe you are you know if you got a you know a

good phone with a good camera which is really really simple a lot of phones

you know have that you can be outside maybe you can be in a very like an

interesting area to where as soon as people see your your video autoplay on

Facebook he grabs their attention right you're like I want to check this out it

can be your environment okay it can be the way you start off your

video you can be like just something goofy right you can start it out how

else can you grab attention okay be creative with this you don't want to

come across as like a goof head or anything you know depend on your style

but you want to be within your you know within your boundaries of how you want

to be perceived as a brand right so like for example for me I'll show you you

know some of the videos and I'll kind of walk you through that some of the

examples but you want to grab attention okay so that people can you know they

won't they will want to they'll be intrigued enough to watch the video step

number one is to get them to watch the video number two okay is you address a

problem okay address problem okay spotlight spotlight problem and even

magnify okay spotlight or magnify if you can explain people's problem better than

they can explain it themselves they'll follow you okay and then you offer

irresistible though irresistible solution and it's got to be friction

free frictionless

slippery slope eg right so that's the big formula easy easy peasy you guys

okay that's the formula so I'm gonna walk you through grab attention address

a problem spotlight magnify the problem make sure that they realize how big it

is okay and on a grander scale offer an irresistible solution which will be this

okay here is an example here is an example of what I'm talking about let me

see here okay check this out so this is going to be one of the videos

that we're releasing I'm gonna I'm gonna cue it up I'm gonna play here for you in

a minute one of the videos that we're releasing

that you will be able to everybody it's gonna be available to everybody okay you

guys will be able to download it okay and you'll be able to you'll be able to

run it on Facebook okay these are about three to three to

five minute videos or so okay you'll be able to run it on Facebook on your own
