It's such a small town.
I was in the supermarket one day and I forgot my purse and the lady behind me was like "Oh
I'll get it, you can just email me the money".
You know it's just such a cute little small town feel and everyone just supports everyone
it's really nice.
Hi my name is Petra Nott.
I'm one of the owners of The Island Restaurant here in Golden, BC.
The Island is an actual island in the middle of town over the Kicking River and then a
little overflow channel.
And so my husband Aaron was born on the island and brought up here so I think he always had
a dream to come back and start a restaurant in this log building on the island.
It was built to be a book store back in the day and its been a fabric store and it was
a Columbia Basin Trust downstairs.
And then there was an architect in here, it's been a little heliski lodge and travel agent.
All sorts of things so it's definitely seen lots of different things.
So we offer breakfast, lunch and dinner every day.
Because we're such in the middle of town everyone knows we're here and sees what's
going on all the time.
People always comment "Oh you look so busy" or "What's going on there?"
I think people like to come here, mostly locals they know they can come in for a nice breakfast.
It's just like the weekend local hangover Sunday.
We have a patio outside that we have in the summer with a bar and riverside dining and
an upper and lower patio and yeah lots of shenanigans.
As a local I can go out for an hour and a half and just get out there and come back.
There's just so much to do and then the days get longer.
Just so much to do that's close.
I see other Aussies come here and they're just blown away, they're like "Look at
the mountains!"
And I don't even really notice sometimes you know you are just doing your day to day
thing.
You step back every now and then and you're like, everywhere I look there's a view.
And you go to other towns and I know when I look at their views and I still think Golden
is the most amazing little town!
