Restaurant manager fired after refusing to serve customer wearing MAGA hat.

The manager of a popular restaurant in Vancouver, Canada, was fired after he told a customer

to remove his "Make America Great Again" cap or he would refuse to serve him.

Darin Hodge, the former manager of the Teahouse in Stanley Park, told Global News he stood

by his decision to ask the man to take off the cap saying the hat represented "racism,

bigotry, Islamophobia, misogyny, white supremacy, (and) homophobia."

"As a person with a strong moral backbone, I had to take a stand against this guest's

choice of headwear while in my former place of work.

Absolutely no regrets," he said in a written statement to Global News.

The hats were made popular during Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign.

Eva Gates, of the Sequoia Group which owns the Stanley Park Tea House, confirmed to Global

News that the incident happened on Tuesday.

"A gentleman came in wearing a hat that was a 'Make America Great Again' hat,

and our manager went up to the gentleman and asked him to take off his hat, that he wouldn't

serve him with that hat on," she said.

"And the gentleman said that he had a right to wear that hat.

And [the manager] refused to serve him if he wouldn't take off his hat, and so the

customer had to leave," she continued.

The company called Hodge a "good person with a big heart and a right to his personal

beliefs," but he was terminated for "violating the company's philosophy of tolerance."

The staff told CBC News that Hodge was employed with the restaurant for about 18 months.

Last week, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders and her family were booted from the

Red Hen in Lexington, Va., after the owner of the establishment told her to leave because

she worked for President Trump.

"Her actions say far more about her than about me," she tweeted.

"I always do my best to treat people, including those I disagree with, respectfully and will

continue to do so."

places to eat and the best things to do in Portland Oregon today we're headed to

Chiosco Pizza Kitchen it's located in the porter downtown and we're gonna go

behind the scenes and see how they make all their delicious pizza but you

approach it from the outside so we're gonna show you all of that but you get

your pizza through basically a kiosk which is what it's named after correct

and basically you're serving people pizza

exactly it's our walk-up Pizza window you know slide open the window grab a

fresh slice trout it's something to drink

beer wine so it's most so good on the outside I'm sure lots of people just

like stumble by an early oh my goodness yeah the bench like down the road yeah

it's awesome so I love to learn a little bit more about you

how you came to work and then if it's a-- the kitchen what is your history

with cooking pizza I've been cooking pizza I mean I think

everybody does whether it's from the frozen when you finally get enough to

make their own I'm sure you've tried a bunch of different keep the topic we're

announcing wrong because I I lost a bet earlier with my husband he is Italian

and I told them it was pronounced one way and so it's program sorry about that

but so what would you say is like your favorite type of pizza

but science ours I mean they're really good talking-to and it's really simple

but there's some really good pizza around town two different toppings

different styles bro I just like it simple I don't like it overcrowded and

it's just got believers and I know that you guys use some Oregon

Mount Tabor's has hazelnuts on pizza do you have any other tributes to

Portland Oregon or we just try to use anything local that we can whether it's

local meats or local cheese's like the Oregon go speedy Jack's we try to stay

we're gonna go behind the scenes and see how you're making all the delicious easy

so do you make the dough first thing wait what we do is we make it and we let

it ferment for about four days so it gives you the good chew it gives it

starts to break down a little bit so you get a good crisscross you get it get you

to it our style is Romano style which is

rectangular and fashioned instead of your traditional round if you go to

Italy a lot of the times it's so lightweight instead of by slice so

you'll go and get a wedge of it but after four days of fermenting we

weigh it out roll it out the margarita pizza is traditional but exceptional it

has a delicious homemade red sauce that is so bright and cheery you can tell

that the tomatoes are seriously fresh the mozzarella is melted graciously on

top of really red tomatoes and of course it's sprinkled with some basil our

version of the margarita

and we cook our marinara for about 10 hours take all the beer father soft and

softened it up all carrots onions and celery garlic lots of garlic and then

some of our san marzano tomatoes

and then we just let cooking so again it's a little bit of sweet

sweetness to it still out on the water on events but we don't want it to be too

pasty it looks like a delicious bright red yeah it almost tastes tomato by

looking at it yep no it's great a little bit of salt pepper

and this piece will only improve as the tomatoes and Fuhrman

so fresh mozzarella we're just gonna pick apart

which again just got it you don't want to overcrowd keep it simple

sprinkled around

let's set it 500 degrees

yes

minutes

this time it takes about six minutes

the way on white pizza has Yukon Gold potatoes roasted garlic and Parmesan

Reggiano it is baked and the potatoes get so creamy and the sauce it's really

delicious well it's been a delicious day at Chiosco

pizza kitchen at the porter hotel hilton in downtown Portland thanks so much for

joining me on this delicious pizza journey when you're in downtown Portland

Japanese Vending Machine Restaurant! EAT IT ALL! A day at the VENDING MACHINE DINER in Japan - Duration: 17:20.

I will push it now.

Is it there? Oh yes they got it.

Cheese!!!

Hello everyone...

I am Ask Japanese's Cathy Cat.

Do you know how convenient Japan is?

Convenience stores are open 24/7, the trains are on time.

And there is an un-rivaled number of vending machines.

So today we will go on a place that is featuring vending machines.

Let's go.

In Tokyo there seems to be a vending machine around every second corner.

I love going round them and finding new drinks and crazy themed drinks.

Today I went to Gunma prefecture a few hours away from busy Tokyo

to find a unique vending machine restaurant

called "The vending machine diner".

Wow there are really strange vending machines here...

I have seen them for the first time.

The vending machines are super retro.

Some have been in use for about 30 years.

Now, those machines do not sell drinks, they mainly sell hot food.

So today my challenge will be to go and try all their items on the menu.

What type of place is this?

We have retro vending machines here.

This gives kids nowadays a chance to experience them, even if they don't know the old vending machines.

What I find rare is that it's food and not drinks.

It is. Nowadays it's hard to find food vending machines.

When were these food machines popular?

Around the 1980s. During that time there weren't any 24hr convenience stores.

If you wanted to sell something 24hrs, it had to be in vending machines.

So the old vending machines were like the convenience stores of nowadays.

That's right.

Mr Tomaru actually thinks of new food items.

So they always have a variety of new and fresh items in the machines.

Also my tip you can't use bills here so break them down into coins first.

Alright, let's get us something tasty.

Let's get udon first!

Let's get some tempura udon out of the machine.

It started making noises.

4...3...2...1...

Do they get done this quickly?

It made a clicking sound. Wow that's so fast.

Let's look.

It's steaming hot.

Wow. It doesn't look that different from udon in restaurants.

Let's try it.

This is so good.

It's so hot.

The tempura is soft now but looks good.

The vegetables inside still have a bite to it. Nice.

This one doesn't seem to have any toppings.

I can only need ramen noodles.

Or is it there? It's here!

There is sliced pork meat.

There are some bean sprouts.

Wait there is more. Two slices of meat.

Looking good looking good.

Let's try the meat with the noodles...

This looks tasty.

This is so good. The meat is super juicy.

I often get instant noodles but this is totally different.

The noodles are fresh and the meat is juicy. This looks tasty.

It has a rich soy sauce flavor.

I prefer this to convenience stores ramen noodles.

It's so cold in here... - It's a fridge.

How does this get so hot in such a short time?

This is a spiral staircase, and the first one comes out like this.

Then hot water and soy sauce flavor pour into it.

That's how it gets so hot. The hot water is 90 degrees hot.

Toasted sandwich vending machine.

There are two flavors. Ham and Cheeeeddaaaar Cheese.

That's funny. They also have a taster menu.

Grated garlic mayonnaise plus sliced garlic.

There is some ham inside, it says.

There are also other things. See, they have cute pictures drawn all over.

"It's hot so there are tongs" it says.

N"It's super hot so please use the tongs, ok?" and here it says "munch munch"

"Be sure to do it!"

"Don't burn yourself!"

Frog: "What the heck! This is friggin hot!"

And since it's so hot there are some mittens too.

There is also a designated tray here.

If I use this right, I should be able to eat some tasty toast.

Let's first try the Ham and Cheeeeddar Cheeese toast.

One two. Let's push this.

It says "Toasting" in Japanese here.

Since it's burning hot, let's use the tongs like they said.

Alright then...

Wow this IS hot.

Let's get it out.

It smells of tasty toasty toast. Smells tasty.

Let's have a look inside.

Outside there is ham, inside there is Cheddaaaar Cheese. The stretchy kind.

Let's dig in.

I like that it has a crunch outside.

Inside it's gooey.

This is super good.

Grated garlic mayonnaise , sliced garlic and there is some ham wedged inside.

and apparently it has "crazy salt" inside...?

Crazy Salt people!

Let's use the cute mittens.

So hot.

Let's put it over here. Blep.

Let's try out their taster menu.

I like the smell of garlic and toasty bread...

It's rich in garlic flavor, but I can take it. It tastes really good.

I tried your taster menu. It was really nice.

There was a lot of garlic inside. - Yes I tried doing that.

Sorry for my garlic breath. *breathy voice* SO MUCH GAAARLICCC.

I am ok.

Do you do these taster sets a lot?

Yes I do. I design food variations that I am interested in.

And then I ask the customers how they like it.

Before I had variations like sweet bean paste and cheese and such.

That's totally different. Sweet beans and cheese?!

What did your customers say to that?

At first they were taken aback but then... most found it tasty.

The machine says HESS PACIFIC... does that mean that's a German and Japanese maker

working together on these machines?

I think that what this might have been, yes.

Is Pacific a vending machine company?

Pacific doesn't make vending machines anymore.

They produce aluminum foil, for cars and such too.

That's why the toast earlier was wrapped inside aluminum foil!

That's it.

We found an interesting connection here then.

There are two doors to get in.

If you put money in, one of these will turn and one sandwich will fall out.

Beneath here there are two hot plates.

They will both wedge in the toast and toast it.

Then when the time is over, the hot plates will open and drop the sandwich.

That's why they were crunchy and really toasted.

Can you believe it?

There is even a vending machine for hamburgers here.

It's not Guten Morgen (Good Morning) but Guten Burger (Good Burger).

It has something resembling the German flag here too.

Guten means "good" in German.

It says Guten Burger in a German style, but in contrast we have a Mexican burger here.

I will enjoy this contrasting menu a lot.

Let's spend 1, 2, 300 yen on this.

300 YEN!

Let's go! Mexican!

It takes just over one minute.

Seconds until my Guten Burger is done 10...9...

What? How? It's suddenly super fast.

5...4...3...2...1......

It's boiling! So hot!

It says "Mexican" on it. There is also a cute stamp of a girl on it.

Can you see the stamp? Cute!"

Let's open the Mexican!

That's how it looks.

Inside the box, the burger is wrapped up one more time.

Wow. So many hallepeno peppers on this! It's covered in it.

And the meat it actually quite big for a Japanese burger.

It's not just meat. It tastes of onions and other spices.

It's soft and the hallepeno peppers work perfectly to complete it.

When you match it it's not too spicy.

It matches perfectly.

Wooop Mexican! It's a little bit spicy now.

Last one is the sliced cheese with cheddar cheese, sliced cheese burger.

Let's go!

(Counting in German) Eins... Zwei... Drei...

Dreihundert Yen!

One came back out. Let's do it again...

No good again...

It's a bit of an older machine, so stuff like this can happen sometimes.

Let's use a different coin.

AH!

I just spoke German to the half German machine, so maybe it just didn't understand me.

Eins ... Zwei .... Drei....

Launching the sliced cheese, ceddar cheese double burger NOW!

It has so much cheese inside, I can't open it because of all the cheese.

Lots of stretchy cheese.

K'POW CHEESE!

The most popular thing on the menu in the automated diner is this:

Tartare sauce meat with bacon.

I really want to try that, so let's dig in.

Meeeeat!

Let's go!

Hot hot hot hot hot hot

Tartare meeeeat.

The tartare sauce is all gooey.

There are so many things inside. Let's eat!

Tomato sauce and Tartare sauce really go well together.

I understand why this became their most popular item.

Tomato sauce from Italy and Tartare from... maybe France?

And since it's a German machine, we got an European taste right here.

European!

Do you get visitors from abroad too?

Yes, I do. Many come because they have seen us on YouTube.

Since it's automated vending machines, you can use them without talking at all...

Yes, but I am thinking, if we get more foreign visitors, maybe

we can add some English descriptions too.

Please do! Hope that will happen.

Thank you so much for today. It was a real feast. I am stuffed.

Japanese vending machines are really something else.

What I found most tasty was the toasted garlic sandwich.

Everyone, I hope you get the chance so use some of the Japanese vending machines too.

If you are from abroad, and you come to Japan, be sure to

find some cool Japanese vending machines and try them out.

That was it from Cathy Cat today. Mata Nyan!

We Went To A Haunted Restaurant • Ladylike - Duration: 7:26.

- [Woman] Are you a wizard?

- [Waiter] Part of Gryffindor.

- Part of Gryffindor, oh,

me too.

- Look at this little copper hat full of magic.

- Hi I'm Jen.

(laughs)

I'm full of magic.

- I'm talking about the bowl.

You ruin everything.

Look at this copper hat full of magic.

- Hi.

- We did this.

(laughs)

I hate you.

(upbeat music)

- So I actually wound up leaving and going home

a day earlier than everyone else.

- [Camera Operator] We have to say good bye

to the beautiful Chantelle after this evening.

- Because, I had bought very expensive tickets

to a Lorde concert over a year ago.

Lorde is like one of my ultimates.

- Chantelle sent a long email to everyone being like,

Lorde is meant most to me since the day I was born.

Ever since I was a child.

- I did.

- Devon was like, it's fine, just write an email

to the girls, let them know, and then I was like,

okay, let me write this email and Kristen's like

we already know Devon told us.

(laughs)

So to kind of send me off we went to Arnaud's

which is another classic, iconic, New Orlean's place.

Not only is Arnaud's just a classic place

with good food, they're celebrating 100 year anniversary.

And so we went there, ate, drank, got bananas foster

again.

- We're doing it.

Kind of.

(cheers and applause)

(upbeat music)

- [Camera Person] Potatoes.

- My little potato.

- [Camera Person] Oh wow that's really hot.

- That's really good.

(laughs)

(pulsing music)

(jazzy music)

- [Camera Person] Preston what are you eating right now?

- I'm eating the chicken with garlic sauce.

I was gonna get the filet mignon,

Jen talked me out of it, best choice I've ever made.

Like top three choices of all time.

- I've been a vegetarian for eight or nine years now.

When I heard that we were going to New Orleans

I was stoked because I've never been there before

and I've always wanted to go.

And two, I was like, oh but what am I gonna eat there?

I've never even been to the south.

So I've only heard things and for the most part

they don't seem super vegetarian friendly.

- Now we have alligator sausage,

cheers.

- [Camera Person] What's it like?

- Yeah, just like strong sausage.

Potent sausage.

- I love a bold sausage.

(laughs)

- All that to say, New Orleans did not disappoint me.

New Orleans delivered.

My soup is delicious, it's a little potato soup.

I got the soup du jour.

- [Kristen] Oh, you're a lady du jour.

- Lady du jour with the soup du jour.

- [Kristen] Oh.

- Caesar salad is good, it's my favorite staple.

Then I got some sauteed mushrooms and I didn't now

that they would have a crispy Parmesan on top of it.

- The meal's almost done.

It's absolutely delicious.

We had a great time.

The only thing left is our desserts.

And Kristen also has to finish her wine.

- Also we have a tour after this.

- We have a tour after this.

- We have a tour?

- I have to say,

- A tour de force?

- A tour de force.

Lance Armstrong, no that's Tour Du France.

(laughs)

- So this restaurant is massive.

It's not just like, welcome to Chili's.

- 38,000 square feet, we're gonna be here til September.

- [Man] One more time.

- 38,000 square feet.

- [Camera Person] And how many square feet is this

so we have an idea of what's to come.

- So we have 38 more of these.

(laughs)

Dead.

- So we're going on this tour.

Each room has it's own vibe,

which is like bucket list for Chantelle

at one point in time was to have a house

and every room be a different theme.

So the whole time I'm just like wait,

this is gorgeous, I'm loving every second of this.

- [Camera Person] Oh, woo, New Orleans.

- Did you scream show me your legs?

- [Camera Person] I said woo, New Orleans.

- Oh.

- [Camera Person] Show me your legs.

I'm about to lose my mind.

This is like the aesthetic

you were going for in your wedding.

It's uncanny.

- Yes it's making sense now.

- [Guide] Anyone know the name of this room?

- [Woman] This is the gold room.

- [Guide] This is the gold room.

- Why is this called the gold room?

Just 'cause it's gold?

(laughs)

- Yeah.

(laughs)

- We're making our way down a hallway

to one room, we took our first steps into this room

and it was cold.

And it's just kind of like, was a little dark

and like almost damp feeling and we're like, wait,

this is kind of weird.

- No this was originally living quarters

for the original family that owned Arnaud's.

The Cazenave family.

- Someone asked our tour guide, have you ever heard

a ghost before?

Do you have any haunted stories here?

And he was like oh yeah.

- It's definitely haunted,

I know first hand.

(laughs)

- Wait, wait, wait, tell us Auggie.

Tell us these ghost stories.

Tell us.

- So. - [Devon] Yes.

- I have one particular story that happened many,

many years ago about being a manager.

I was making my rounds at the end of the night.

I had my little routine and I would go to this room

and the next room and the next room

and leave the main hallway on and then this particular night

I did my routine and as I made my way back on this side

there was lights that were back on.

I was the only one in the restaurant.

And I was walking down this hallway

and at the end of the hallway there's a mirror

that's on the wall, I see a white sheet dangling

about four and a half to five feet in mid air

following behind me.

(gasps)

It didn't take me very long to run down the hall

and leave the rest of the lights on.

- Okay, that's not the water heater.

(laughs)

- It actually happened right here,

right here is where it happened.

- [Woman] Who do you think it was?

- And that was the mirror that, yeah.

- Shook.

- [Camera Person] I'm shook.

- Shook.

- So we walked into this room that was for sure haunted

and then we're like, oh next room.

Overall, New Orleans food scene has so much more

than I ever could have imagined.

And I feel bad for just assuming that it was one type

of food and nothing else.

There was so much here and it's all within the same city

within blocks of each other.

So it really is pretty cool.

(upbeat music)

(whooshes and squeaks)

Happy Gathering Chinese restaurant in Cardiff faces major fine - Duration: 2:29.

A Chinese restaurant in Cardiff faces a major fine after it sold rice containing egg despite being told it was for a person with an egg allergy

Directors of the Happy Gathering restaurant in Cowbridge Road East, Canton , appeared at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Friday and pleaded guilty to a trading standards offence

The court heard that an investigation was launched by Cardiff council's food safety department to assess food providers and their ability to exclude certain foods from their recipes when asked to do so

On January 17, 2017, officers made a request for special fried rice from Happy Gathering with a note asking for egg to be omitted from the meal due to the buyer having an egg allergy

When the rice was analysed it was found to contain 88mg of egg white protein.  The restaurant was then visited by officers who spoke to the managers to explain their obligations when it came to their customers' allergy needs

Another test was purchased on May 2, 2017, with an order made for special fried rice without egg, due to the customer having an egg allergy

When this was tested the rice was found to contain egg white protein of 20mg.  At the court hearing, the director of Orchard Falls Ltd, which owns Happy Gathering, Kin Wai Chan, pleaded guilty on behalf of the company to operating a food business which place unsafe food on the market

District Judge Bodfan Jenkins adjourned the case for sentencing at the same court on August 3

Police: Man Threw Chicken Feces at Red Hen Restaurant During Protest - Duration: 1:57.

Reginald Scott See was arrested and charged with both littering and disorderly conduct for allegedly throwing chicken excrement at the Red Hen restaurant

The 51-year-old Martinsburg, West Virginia, resident showed up to demonstrate his dissatisfaction with the restaurant that ejected Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on June 22

Server Foley-Schultz posted on Facebook at the time, gloating that he had "just served Sarah huckabee sanders for a total of 2 minutes before my owner kicked her out along with 7 of her other family members," a claim he later amended

See joined numerous other demonstrators outside the establishment. See allegedly slung gobs of chicken feces and straw, but the protest was otherwise classified as "semi-peaceful" by local authorities despite some "shouting

"  Protesters were not the only ones with harsh words for The Red Hen. President Donald Trump roundly criticized the restaurant in a tweet, writing, "The Red Hen Restaurant should focus more on cleaning its filthy canopies, doors and windows (badly needs a paint job) rather than refusing to serve a fine person like Sarah Huckabee Sanders

I always had a rule, if a restaurant is dirty on the outside, it is dirty on the inside!"  Stephanie Wilkinson, the owner who asked Sanders to leave, later resigned from the Main Street Lexington business group "for the continued success of Main Street Lexington," according to group president Elizabeth Branner

Restaurant Manager Kicks Out Customer In MAGA Hat, Realizes Big Mistake Too Late - Duration: 4:32.

Restaurant Manager Kicks Out Customer In MAGA Hat, Realizes Big Mistake Too Late.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders was recently kicked out of a restaurant in Lexington, Virginia

just because she worked for the President.

If that sounds stupid, then that's just the start.

Congresswoman Maxine Waters has now called for anyone associated with the President to

be harassed, and a circle formed around them to let them know they're not welcome.

This kind of behavior has led to more Trump supporters being thrown out of restaurants.

A man by the name of Darin Hodge decided he was going to take matters into his own hands

when Trump supporters walked into a popular restaurant he was the manager at in Vancouver.

Darin told the Trump supporter to take off his Make America Great Again cap if he wanted

to be served in the restaurant.

When the patron declined, Darin refused to serve him.

Hodge was later fired.

The owner of the restaurant told the press Darin was fired because he didn't follow

the companies "Philosophy of tolerance."

Doesn't that sound familiar?

Tolerance?

Liberals claim to be the most tolerant people.

They preach their tolerance to everyone else except themselves.

Practice what you preach doesn't sit well with the left.

Hodge had worked at the restaurant, the Teahouse in Stanley Park, for 18 months.

In a statement to Global News, Hodge said he would do it again.

"I stand by my decision to ask the patron to remove his hat.

The MAGA hat has come to symbolize racism, bigotry, Islamaphobia, misogyny, white supremacy,

homophobia.

As a person with a strong moral backbone, I had to take a stand against this guest's

choice of headwear while in my former place of work," he said.

Following the incident, a Yelp review page for the Teahouse in Stanley Park was flooded

with comments from Trump supporters who praised the firing and others who cheered on Hodge."

Darin thought he was a macho man for refusing to serve a Trump supporter.

He even made it clear that he was proud of what he did, and would do it again.

Don't be a Darin.

Don't lose your job because you can't seem to do your job for an hour and make a

decent tip off a Trump supporter.

That's just ridiculous.

"As a person with a strong moral backbone, I had to take a stand against this guest's

choice of headwear while in my former place of work.

Absolutely no regrets."

But the Sequoia Group of Restaurants, which owns the Teahouse, said Mr. Hodge's refusal

of service amounted to a violation of the company's "philosophy of tolerance."

"Sequoia does not support intolerance of any kind, and it is because of these principles

that we cannot discriminate against someone based on their support for the current administration

in the United States or any other bona fide political party," a spokesperson said in

a statement.

The incident comes days after White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was

forced to leave a restaurant in Virginia, due to what the owner said was her involvement

in an "inhumane and unethical" Trump administration"

Moral backbone?

Refusing to serve someone in a restaurant because you believe differently than them

when it comes to politics isn't having a moral backbone.

Darin, what you're essentially saying is "you're the wrong color.

Therefore you can't eat here."

You're simply bringing back segregation in the name of political disagreement.

If you enjoy living that way, then go live it at home, and leave it out of the public

life.

We got rid of the Nazi's once, and we're not afraid to do it again.

The Nazi party did everything in their power to undermine and completely alienate their

opponents.

Once they took power, you know exactly what they did.

This is the same path the left is headed down, and they don't even see it.

Well, they might see it, and won't admit that they're the ones who're the real

bigots.

Intolerance has no place in this world.

The left is just as guilty of it as anyone else is.

This is evidence that the Trump derangement syndrome is in full effect all over North

America.

The left has become so unhinged that they can't stand seeing the sight of a Trump

supporter.

We hope Mr. Hodge learned his lesson.

From the looks of his statement, he probably won't, and will be fired again shortly.

what do you think about this?
